ABOUT THE POSITON
Long Beach Community College District is currently seeking one full-time tenure track Art History Faculty commencing with the Fall 2026 semester. The Art History program within LBCC's Visual and Media Arts Department is seeking a candidate for a primary teaching assignment which involves teaching Global Art History courses in one or multiple areas of Art History specialization in Black/African Art, Asian Art, Latinx/Latin American Art, or Ancient Art.
The teaching assignment may be at the Liberal Arts campus, the Trade, Tech and Community Learning campus, or other college teaching locations. The assignment may be on campus, online or off campus in different modalities or course lengths and is subject to change as needed. The ideal candidate for this position embraces the overall mission of Long Beach Community College District, with a clear, focused commitment to teaching and academic excellence, student equity, student inclusion, student learning and student success through the work of art history. Candidates who can contribute to this goal through their teaching, research, advising, and other activities are encouraged to identify their strengths and experiences in this area. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Master’s in art history, history of art and architecture or visual culture/visual studies 
OR
Bachelor’s in art history AND master’s in history 
OR 
Master’s in art with a recorded emphasis or concentration in art history 
OR 
the equivalent

All candidates must demonstrate:
Evidence of a sensitivity, understanding, and ability to manage the classroom environment AND effectively provide instruction to community college students of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds. 

 
Desirable Qualifications:
  • Recent experience teaching Global Art in at least one of the following areas: Black/African Art, Asian Art, Latinx/Latin American Art, and teaching Art History Survey (Prehistory to Medieval). 
  • A minimum of 2 years of training/experience as an Art Historian. 
  • Evidence of the ability to self-reflect and respond to an evidence-based assessment of student learning.
  • Evidence of student-centered pedagogy.
  • Demonstratedabilitytoworkwithindiverseandinclusivecommunitiesofdiscourseand practice.
  • Evidence of the ability to effectively engage with and facilitate authentic learning for students of diverse backgrounds, cultures, and experiences.
  • At least three years of recent experience teaching college students, especially at a community college.
  • Evidence of current or inventive uses of interactive technologies to support student success and engage students in both in-person and online courses.
  • Online certification and Canvas training.
  • Evidence of effective oral and written communication and organizational skills, project planning, professional rigor and ethics.

LICENSE AND/OR CERTIFICATE:
Possession of, or ability to obtain an appropriate valid California Driver’s License.APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS:
