Position Overview
We are looking for a Director of Business Development – Data Centers for an established, employee-owned technology infrastructure contractor that is rapidly expanding its presence in the data center and mission-critical market.
This is a true hunter-style business development role and an opportunity to help shape the commercial strategy of an emerging data center division. The individual will serve as a key growth driver for the business, developing new relationships, opening strategic accounts, and helping build a long-term pipeline of data center opportunities.
The ideal candidate will have a strong track record of generating new business, developing executive-level relationships, and selling complex, high-value services. Direct data center experience and established industry relationships are highly valued, but the company is also open to exceptional business development professionals from construction, technology infrastructure, electrical, telecommunications, or related industries who can demonstrate strong results and the ability to quickly learn the market.
This is an entrepreneurial role for someone who enjoys building rather than simply maintaining an existing book of business.
Responsibilities
- Develop net-new data center and mission-critical business opportunities.
- Build relationships with general contractors, hyperscalers, developers, owners, operators, colocation providers, engineering firms, and senior industry decision-makers.
- Leverage existing relationships and develop new ones to open doors and generate project opportunities.
- Manage opportunities from initial introduction through qualification, pursuit strategy, proposal coordination, and award.
- Engage clients early in the project lifecycle to position the company for upcoming work.
- Help shape the business development strategy and go-to-market approach for the company's growing data center division.
- Work closely with executive leadership, estimating, operations, and project management.
- Track industry activity, capital investments, and emerging data center opportunities across North America.
- Represent the company at industry events, conferences, customer meetings, and strategic networking opportunities.
- Maintain an accurate pipeline and CRM activity.
- Demonstrate measurable performance through pipeline development, new accounts, project opportunities, revenue generation, and other agreed-upon KPIs.
- Build strategic customer relationships that create sustained, long-term revenue opportunities.
Qualifications
- 5 years of successful business development, strategic sales, account development, or related industry experience preferred; exceptional candidates with demonstrated results will also be considered.
- Proven success generating net-new business in a hunter-style sales environment.
- Demonstrated history of measurable business development results, including revenue generated, pipeline developed, strategic accounts opened, projects won, quota attainment, or similar performance KPIs.
- Demonstrated ability to build and develop strategic customer relationships over time and create sustained account growth.
- Data center and mission-critical industry experience strongly preferred but not required for an exceptional business development professional.
- Experience within construction, technology infrastructure, structured cabling, telecommunications, electrical contracting, engineering, or related industries is highly valued.
- Existing relationships with data center general contractors, developers, owners/operators, hyperscalers, colocation providers, and senior industry decision-makers are highly valued.
- Experience developing or selling complex projects valued at $1M .
- Ability to communicate effectively with executives, developers, contractors, technical stakeholders, and internal operational teams.
- Strong relationship-building, negotiation, presentation, and strategic selling skills.
- Comfortable working independently and helping build a developing business segment.
- Entrepreneurial and adaptable mindset with the ability to operate effectively in a rapidly evolving environment.
- Strong communication and responsiveness, particularly while working remotely and traveling.
- Team-oriented mentality with the ability to collaborate closely with operations, estimating, project management, and executive leadership.
- Willingness to travel approximately 30–50%.
Culture & Ownership Mindset
As an employee-owned company, the organization places a strong emphasis on ownership mentality, teamwork, communication, and accountability.
The successful individual will understand that business development is not simply about generating revenue. The quality of the opportunities pursued, profitability of the work, customer relationships, operational execution, and decisions made throughout the sales process all affect the long-term success of the company and its employee owners.
This role is well suited for someone who is highly entrepreneurial but also collaborative — someone who can independently create opportunities while remaining closely connected to the broader team.
Flexibility will also be important. The data center division is continuing to evolve, and this individual will have the opportunity to help shape the role, sales strategy, target accounts, and future direction of the business.
Compensation & Benefits
- $125,000 base salary
- $60,000 guaranteed first-year performance incentive
- Significant additional performance-based earning potential
- Employee ownership through an Employee Stock Ownership Plan
- Opportunity to play a major role in building and growing an expanding data center division
If you are a proven business development professional who enjoys opening doors, building strategic relationships, and creating opportunities from the ground up, we would like to speak with you.
Direct data center experience is highly valued, but we are equally interested in accomplished business development professionals who have demonstrated the ability to build markets, generate measurable results, and develop lasting customer relationships.
