POSITION: Field Operations Technician

LOCATION: 655 Conroe Park North Drive, Conroe, TX 77303

HOURS: Monday – Friday, 8:00am – 5:00pm (Extended hours as needed)

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Field Operations Supervisor

POSITION SUMMARY:

This position works closely with Permitting Department under the direction of the Field Operations Supervisor to ensure proper permitting and documentation of groundwater use as well as verifying accuracy of well permits, communicating with well registrants on compliance issues, verifying well locations, meters and pumpage; and verifying and enhancing the District’s well permit database. Maintaining accurate and detailed records is a fundamental part of this job description. Excellent communication skills are essential due to the multifaceted nature of this role, requiring effective interaction with various individuals and entities.

Essential Duties:

  • Assist in day-to-day operations, provide feedback regarding field procedures and accuracy of applicant information, and maintain daily communications with Permitting Department in areas of compliance and permitting;
  • Provide advice and consultation in groundwater use to ensure compliance with federal, state and District regulations;
  • Perform field inspections as needed for meter readings, wells and verify compliance;
  • Identify unpermitted and unregistered wells and perform investigations. Place notices on doors for non-compliance;
  • Maintenance of field equipment as well as keep an inventory list;
  • Ensure timely maintenance of field equipment and vehicles for safety standards;
  • Assist with development and filing of reports concerning performance of field activities and services provided;
  • Organizing and maintaining spreadsheets with accurate records on a consistent basis.
  • Support Field Operations Supervisor in performing maintenance and ensuring accurate operation of District research equipment, such as Port-A-Measure (PAM) devices and weather station, etc.;
  • Work in conjunction with the District’s Field Operations Supervisor and Education and Outreach Coordinator, when necessary, in coordination, planning, and implementation of the District’s various education and outreach events and programs;
  • Assist Field Operations Supervisor with building maintenance and upkeep;
  • Apply basic principles of groundwater conservation and be knowledgeable of the Rules of the District and of their application to all affected parties;
  • Provide on-site technical support in areas of water conservation to help reduce overall water consumption; and
  • Provide quality service by establishing and enforcing organization standards.

  • Navigation Skills - Able to read and interpret gps coordinates and maps for all of Montgomery County.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Graduation from accredited high school;
  • Preferred 2-5 years experience in similar or related business environment or government agency;
  • Ability to professionally represent the District to other agencies and general public;
  • Must demonstrate a willingness to learn and teach water conservation;
  • Ability to work safely and efficiently with little supervision;
  • Must be skilled in Microsoft Office programs;
  • Ability to drive truck and trailer – CDL not required;
  • Adaptable to elements with extreme heat or cold, as majority of time spent working outdoors;
  • Able to lift minimum of 30 pounds;
  • Must have personable nature and ability to work under various job-related pressures and deadlines, in a team environment with a positive attitude;
  • Strong communications skills required, both written and verbal; and
  • Should possess above-average organizational skills and abilities.

Job Type: Full-time
