The Therapeutic Recreation Aide provides therapeutic recreational opportunities and activities for residents which enhance their overall physical, mental, emotional, and psychosocial wellbeing. They ensure that activities offered are individualized, meaningful, purposeful, and based on each resident's personal interests.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Complete MDS Activities—Initial Review Assessment as assigned.
- Complete required documentation, including but not limited to the quarterly and annual activities participation review, daily attendance records, individual visit records, and MDS Section F.
- Plan, implement, lead, and evaluate activity programs, including transporting residents to/from programs.
- Contribute to and implement resident care plans. Attend and actively participate in resident care conferences when requested.
- Schedule and conduct outings for residents, including driving facility vehicles and buses safely.
- Plan programs involving groups from the outside community, including intergenerational programs.
- Contribute to the planning and development of monthly activity newsletters
- Assist in the development, implementation, and review of programs.
- Schedule, coordinate, and participate in special programs.
- Perform individual visits as needed or requested.
- Keep activity areas clean and clutter free ensuring resident safety at all times.
- Prepare requests for supplies and requests for checks and submit to the Director of Therapeutic Recreation for approval.
- Obtain volunteers for programs as needed.
- Participate in departmental staff meetings.
- Provide care for resident pet as needed.
- Promotes harmonious relationships between TR staff, residents, families, volunteers, and other departments.
- Coordinate programs with other TR staff and the Director of Therapeutic Recreation.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Minimum of one year of experience in developing and conducting activity and recreational programs in a skilled nursing setting preferred.
- High School diploma or GED.
- Valid PA Driver's License in good standing.
- Ability to use Microsoft Office programs, including Word, Excel, and Publisher.
- Ability to travel locally for outings and to attend training programs.
- Must follow all universal precautions procedures, including use of personal protective equipment, due to potential for exposure to bloodborne pathogens.
