Step into a vital role at Londonderry Village, where your vigilance and quick response help ensure a safe, secure, and welcoming environment for all who live, work, and visit our community. As a Safety Officer, you will be the first line of defense in emergencies, a calming presence in uncertain moments, and a watchful eye over our facilities and safety systems. From monitoring access points and alarm systems to assisting during urgent situations, your focus on safety helps protect the people who call Londonderry Village home, and ensures it remains a place of comfort, care, and peace of mind.
Shift: Full-Time, 3:00pm-11:30pm (Rotating Weekends Rotating Holidays)
Your responsibilities will include:
- Controls Access: Monitors entrances to the Main Building, authorizing the entry and exit of residents, employees, visitors, and vendors to maintain safety and prevent theft.
- Patrols Vigilantly: Conducts regular rounds across campus buildings and grounds to deter intrusion and verify the security of doors, windows, and gates.
- Documents Thoroughly: Records incidents of property damage or unusual activity during shifts and promptly reports details to the Security Supervisor and appropriate leadership.
- Answers After-Hours Calls: Handles telephone operator duties during evenings and weekends to ensure seamless communication.
- Supports Residents: Offers general assistance and conducts welfare checks as needed to support resident safety and well-being.
- Responds First: Acts as the initial responder in emergencies and independent living (IL) calls, administering CPR and first aid when required.
- Monitors Building Systems: Observes and resets HVAC, boiler, and furnace systems during patrols to ensure optimal building operations.
- Inspects High-Risk Areas: Regularly checks storage areas, boiler rooms, and similar locations, reporting or addressing safety hazards or maintenance needs.
- Handles Alarms Promptly: Responds to nurse call systems, fire alarms, and security alerts according to established protocols.
- Supports Operations: Assists with basic maintenance, housekeeping tasks, and hazardous material cleanup as necessary.
- Investigates Incidents: Looks into accidents, suspicious behavior, and safety concerns, producing detailed reports per protocol.
- Conducts Safety Checks: Performs compliance and safety inspections, documenting all relevant readings and findings.
- Manages Power Failures: Responds to electrical outages and initiates appropriate corrective actions to minimize disruption.
- Assists Emergency Responders: Collaborates with law enforcement, fire departments, and EMS teams during on-site emergencies.
- Acts Swiftly: Maintains a sense of urgency and calm when responding to emergency or high-pressure situations.
- Follows Safety Protocols: Adheres to all procedures involving personal protective equipment and biohazard safety standards.
- Communicates Effectively: Uses active listening and clear, respectful communication with residents, staff, and visitors.
- Builds Relationships: Establishes strong working connections with colleagues, residents, and guests across the community.
- Maintain Integrity: Upholds ethical standards, confidentiality, and professionalism in every interaction.

What You Bring to the Table
- Licensed and Road-Ready: Possession of a valid PA Driver’s License in good standing.
- Proven Experience: Minimum of 3 years in safety or security within a nursing home or long-term care setting.
- Emergency Training Advantage: EMT or firefighting background is a plus but not required.
- Crisis-Ready: Familiarity with emergency response systems to act quickly when it matters most.
- Tech-Savvy: Basic computer knowledge and the ability to be trained on our medical alert systems.
- Strong Communicator: Able to communicate clearly and professionally in both spoken and written English.
- Compassionate Presence: Comfortable addressing and supporting end-of-life situations with empathy and respect.
- Life-Saving Certified: Current First-Aid and CPR certification or willing to obtain.
- Safety First: Must follow all universal precautions and use personal protective equipment (PPE) when necessary, due to potential for exposure to bloodborne pathogens.
- Physically Capable: Ability to occasionally exert up to 50 lbs. of force as part of the role, and walk/stand for the majority of your shift.
