Product Design Engineer – Sheet Metal & Injection Molding
Lomanco, Inc. is seeking a Product Design Engineer with experience in sheet metal product design, stamping/forming processes, and plastic injection molded part design. This position will work closely with manufacturing, tooling, maintenance, and engineering teams to develop and support high-volume manufactured products from concept through production.
The ideal candidate understands how products are actually manufactured — including tooling limitations, forming operations, assembly methods, tolerances, and design-for-manufacturability principles — not just conceptual CAD design.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop sheet metal and plastic injection molded products for high-volume manufacturing
- Create and maintain 3D models, assemblies, and detailed manufacturing drawings using SolidWorks
- Work with tooling suppliers and internal teams regarding progressive dies, transfer dies, forming operations, and tooling improvements
- Support product prototyping, testing, validation, and production implementation
- Collaborate with manufacturing and maintenance teams on assembly methods, fixtures, automation, and process improvements
- Support engineering documentation, BOMs, ECOs/ECNs, and PDM systems
- Participate in product improvement, quality, and cost-reduction initiatives
- Assist with technical evaluations and design-for-manufacturing reviews
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field preferred
- Experience with:
Sheet metal design
Stamping and forming processes
Progressive and/or transfer dies
Plastic injection molded part design
Design for manufacturability (DFM)
- Proficiency with SolidWorks and PDM systems
- Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work closely with manufacturing personnel, tooling vendors, and cross-functional teams
Preferred Experience
- High-volume manufacturing environments
- Tooling coordination and production support
- Product testing and validation
- Assembly process development
