Job Description

Job Summary: The Cardiovascular Technician functions in a large tertiary academic Children's Hospital with Magnet Recognition, level one trauma designation, and Intersocietal Accreditation Commission (IAC) accredited echocardiography lab that serves inpatients and outpatients with congenital or acquired cardiac diseases. Functions within the scope of practice of an unlicensed member of the multidisciplinary healthcare team. Works under the direction of the Cardiodiagnostic Lab Supervisor, registered nurse or physician to competently perform non-invasive diagnostic cardiac procedures/tests independently, which include, but may not be limited to: routine treadmill tests, 12 lead electrocardiograms (ECG/EKG), Cardiac Arrhythmia Event Monitoring, 24, 48 hour and 3 � 14 day Holter Monitoring. Seeks clarification of orders as needed and pursues information necessary for successful completion of the procedure/test by conferring with physician or registered nurse to optimize test results as deemed appropriate. Monitors patient closely during procedures/tests and recognizes and reports cardiac dysrhythmias, life threatening arrhythmias and abnormal or atypical vital signs immediately to RN or physician and initiates emergency resuscitation measures as directed. Performs preventative machine maintenance, calibration and specific quality control checks prior to diagnostic procedure/test in accordance with established policies and procedures. Cleans and disinfects equipment and accessories as indicated by policies and procedures and manufacturer's recommendations. Utilizes effective interpersonal skills to maximize excellence in customer service and safe patient care. Follows service excellence best practices to improve the patient, family and visitor experience and performance scores. Demonstrates solid service recovery methodologies and resolves issues expressed from dissatisfied customers. Seeks assistance as needed. Exhibits behaviors that contribute to a highly motivated and high-performance team and displays professionalism in behavior, dress and conversation. Performs other duties as needed.

Education and Experience: Associate of Science Degree in cardiovascular technology preferred. Minimum one year of experience in a cardiovascular lab preferred.

Knowledge and Skills: Knowledge of cardiac anatomy, physiology, EKG/ECG rhythms (normal, abnormal, life-threatening), medical terminology and specialized procedures/tests and techniques required for position required. Knowledge of unlicensed assistant personnel scope of practice for healthcare required. Demonstrates competencies in fundamentals of patient care and safety. Able to perform basic patient care activities using proper body mechanics and safety precautions; accept direction, comprehend and follow-through with instructions; use computer, printer and software programs necessary to the position, e.g., Microsoft Office, Outlook, electronic event reporting program, electronic medical record, MUSE. Able to read; write and speak in English (and Spanish preferred) with professional quality; assemble, operate and troubleshoot patient care machines and equipment utilized for position. Able to relate and communicate positively, effectively, and professionally with others; be assertive and consistent in following policies; work calmly and respond courteously when under pressure; teach and collaborate; think critically, problem solve and use good judgment. Able to perform basic math functions; manage multiple assignments; organize and prioritize workload; recall information with accuracy; pay close attention to detail. Able to distinguish colors as necessary for position; hear sufficiently for general conversation in person and on the telephone, and identify and distinguish various sounds associated with the workplace; see adequately to read computer screens, and written documents necessary to the position.

Licensures and Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association required.
