Job Description

Job Summary: The Medical Assistant, Residency Clinics works under the supervision of the Registered Nurse (RN) and/or physician in the clinic environment to provide developmentally appropriate and age-specific (neonatal, infant, toddler, preschooler, school age, adolescent, young adult, middle adult, later adult) direct and indirect patient care within designated scope of practice; assists with ensuring efficient clinic operation; floats among clinics as requested; utilizes interpersonal skills to maximize customer service in a manner that supports the I CARE initiative, excellence in customer service, safe patient care, and professionalism; contributes to a work environment of caring and cooperation among a culturally diverse workforce and patient population. Performs other duties as needed. Education and Experience: Successful completion of an approved Certified Medical Assistant program or other health care training certificate. Minimum one year of previous clinical experience preferred. Knowledge and Skills: Able to read; write legibly; speak in English with professional quality; operate patient care equipment necessary to the position; perform basic patient care activities using proper body mechanics and safety precautions; use computer, printer, and software programs necessary to the position. Able to relate and communicate positively, effectively, and professionally with others; be assertive and consistent in following policies; work calmly and respond courteously when under pressure; collaborate with healthcare team; accept direction. Able to communicate effectively in English in person, in writing, and on the telephone; think critically; perform basic math functions; manage multiple assignments effectively; work well under pressure; problem solve; organize and prioritize workload; recall information with accuracy; pay close attention to detail; perform basic patient care duties with minimal supervision. Able to distinguish colors and smells as necessary for patient care; hear sufficiently for general conversation in person and on the telephone; identify and distinguish various sounds associated with the work place/patient care; discern temperature variances through touch; see adequately to read computer screens, medical records, and written documents necessary to the position. Licensures and Certifications: Medical Assistant certification or Medical Assistant diploma or other health care training certificate required. Basic life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association required.
