Position Overview
The Material Coordinator is responsible for coordinating the movement, tracking, storage, and distribution of materials, supplies, parts, and equipment in support of logistics, warehousing, and maintenance operations. This role ensures accurate inventory control, timely material flow, and compliance with contract, regulatory, and organizational requirements to support mission readiness.
Key Responsibilities
Material Management & Coordination
- Coordinate receipt, storage, issue, and distribution of materials, parts, tools, and equipment in accordance with established procedures.
- Review and process material requests, work orders, and requisitions to ensure timely support to maintenance and operational activities.
- Maintain visibility of incoming and outgoing shipments and ensure proper routing and documentation.
- Expedite high-priority or mission-essential material requirements.
Inventory Control & Documentation
- Conduct inventory checks, cycle counts, and reconciliations to maintain accurate on-hand balances.
- Track and update material statuses in automated systems such as GCSS-Army, MAXIMO, LMP, or other contract-required logistics platforms.
- Maintain documentation for receiving reports, material issue transactions, turn-ins, and shipping documents.
- Identify inventory discrepancies and coordinate corrective actions with supply or warehouse personnel.
Warehouse & Storage Operations
- Ensure materials are stored properly, safely, and in accordance with regulatory, environmental, and shelf-life requirements.
- Assist in establishing and maintaining bin locations, storage plans, and material layout.
- Support packaging, labeling, staging, and preparation of materials for transport.
- Coordinate with transportation personnel on outbound shipments, freight movement, and hazardous material handling (if required).
Customer Service & Coordination
- Serve as a liaison between supply, maintenance, procurement, and supported units to ensure material availability.
- Provide status updates on backorders, shortages, due-ins, due-outs, and open requisitions.
- Support maintenance planners, production control, and supervisors with material forecasts or requirements analysis.
Compliance & Safety
- Follow OSHA, DOD, and company safety guidelines for material handling, equipment operation, and warehouse procedures.
- Ensure accuracy, accountability, and audit-readiness of material records and transactions.
- Comply with security and handling procedures for sensitive, hazardous, or controlled items.
Required Qualifications
- Experience in supply, warehouse, logistics, or material coordination operations.
- Knowledge of inventory control, material management practices, and warehouse procedures.
- Ability to use automated logistics systems (GCSS-Army, MAXIMO, LMP, etc.) and Microsoft Office.
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to lift and move materials as required and operate material-handling equipment (if applicable).
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior military logistics or DOD contractor experience.
- Forklift certification or experience with MHE operation.
- Familiarity with Army property accountability procedures and supply regulations.
- Experience supporting maintenance or production environments.
Physical & Work Environment Requirements
- Ability to lift 35–50 lbs regularly and stand, bend, or move for extended periods.
- Work performed in warehouse, shop, or outdoor environments depending on mission.
- Use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required.
