Job Summary
The Customs Brokerage Team Lead involves leading a team of entry writers and specialists, resolving issues to facilitate smooth and timely customs clearance. This role bridges operational execution with the broader compliance strategy and client satisfaction, supporting both internal efficiency and providing high-quality service to our clients.
Responsibilities:
- Lead day-to-day operations of a customs entry team for both air and ocean shipments, ensuring timely and accurate processing and submission to CBP and Partner Government Agencies (PGAs).
- Coach, mentor, and develop team members through hands-on training, performance feedback, and ongoing development support.
- Monitor team performance and workflow, reallocating tasks as needed to optimize capacity and meet deadlines.
- Provide escalation support and resolve complex entry issues, classification questions, and urgent shipment concerns.
- Act as a liaison between team members and the Brokerage Manager, elevating challenges and suggesting process improvements.
- Ensure team compliance with U.S. Customs regulations, company policy, and client-specific SOPs.
- Support internal audits and documentation accuracy, partnering with the compliance team to reduce risk exposure.
- Serve as a subject matter expert (SME) for key accounts or complex commodities and provide guidance across the department.
- Contribute to long-term department strategy, including technology adoption (e.g., CargoWise) and automation opportunities.
- Maintain a strong relationship with other internal departments including sales, operations, and accounting to ensure cross-functional alignment.
- Perform any other related duties and projects as requested or assigned by the Customs Brokerage Manager and/or Supervisors.
Experience Required:
- 5 years of hands-on Customs Brokerage experience in all modes of transport.
- Demonstrated experience managing or mentoring entry-level or mid-level team members.
- Deep understanding of U.S. Customs regulations, HTS classification, and PGA requirements.
Customs Broker License (LCB) preferred but not required.
- Excellent leadership and communication skills; approachable, collaborative, and accountable.
- High attention to detail and ability to work under pressure and tight deadlines.
- Familiarity with digital customs software; experience with CargoWise is a strong plus.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and general comfort with digital platforms.
Pay: From $75,000.00 per year
