Job Overview
We are seeking a motivated and energetic Grounds and Maintenance Worker to join our team. In this vital role, you will be responsible for maintaining the beauty, safety, and functionality of outdoor spaces and facilities. Your efforts will ensure that lawns, landscapes, and hardscape features are well-kept, safe, and inviting for all visitors and staff at the W Kerr, Scott Lake and Dam. This is a year-round position, responsible for primarily mowing, edging, backpack blowing over 100 acres of USACE property around campgrounds and parks. This will start off as a seasonal position and be evaluated at the end of October for a possible full-time position. Must be able to operate zero turn radius mowers.

Duties

• Perform lawn care activities including mowing, edging, fertilizing, and aerating to keep outdoor areas lush and healthy
• Conduct landscape maintenance tasks such as planting, pruning, tree trimming, and shrubbery care to enhance visual appeal
• Operate hand tools, power tools, and equipment like excavators for landscaping projects or site improvements
• Maintain hardscape features including pathways, patios, retaining walls, and other structures using appropriate tools and techniques
• If promoted to full-time, this position will also assist with snow plowing and snow removal during winter months to maintain safe walkways and driveways
• Support general maintenance activities across the project including minor repairs and safety inspections
• Support the cleaning crews across the project pulling trash, cleaning beaches, cleaning restrooms

Requirements

• Proven mechanical knowledge with experience operating landscaping machinery and hand tools
• Familiarity with lawn care practices, landscape maintenance, horticulture, and gardening techniques
• Ability to operate power tools such as trimmers, blowers, saws, and excavators safely and efficiently
• Knowledge of tree care including trimming, pruning, and health assessment
• Experience in construction or hardscape installation is a plus
• Physical ability to perform manual labor outdoors in various weather conditions
• Excellent teamwork skills with a proactive attitude toward safety and quality standards
