What are the responsibilities and job description for the Bus Driver position at Logansport Community School Corporation?
Description:
- Safely transport students to and from school and school-related activities while maintaining order on the bus
- Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations
- Participate in state school bus driver certification course provided by LCSC Transportation Department
- This position is for 3 hours/day (this position is a split-shift position working both the morning and afternoon routes)
- This position is for 180 days/school year and follows the student schedule on the school calendar
Responsibilities:
- Safely operate a school bus over designated routes according to strict time schedules
- Pick up and discharge students only at authorized stops
- Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections and complete any required paperwork
- Maintain order and discipline among passengers; enforce district's conduct reporting system
- Ensure all passengers are properly seated and wearing seat belts (where equipped)
- Assist student with special needs (loading/unloading wheelchairs, securing mobility devices, etc.) when required
- Responsible for a maintaining a clean bus
- Attend mandatory safety meetings and ongoing training when scheduled
- Administer basic first aid and follow emergency procedures when necessary
- Operate two-way radio and report delays, accidents, or mechanical issues immediately to the transportation office
- Comply with all federal CDL drug and alcohol testing requirements
- Upon offer, candidate must complete and clear drug screen and the expanded criminal history background check for school personnel as required by IN state law
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required
- Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class B with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements (qualify through LCSC school bus training certification)
- Clean driving record
- Must enjoy being around children
- Must be able to climb in and out of the bus frequently
- Sit for extended periods of time
- Work split shifts (morning route/afternoon route)
- Tolerant of high noise level inside of the bus
