Business Development Research Analyst

Logan Simpson
Tempe, AZ Full Time
POSTED ON 7/31/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 8/29/2026

Are you interested in joining an award-winning, multidisciplinary consulting firm where you can contribute to our diverse, collaborative, and innovative team? At Logan Simpson, you’ll have the opportunity to expand your skillset, while bringing new tools and ideas to the table.

The Opportunity:

We have an immediate opening for a regular full-time Business Development Research Analyst to work a hybrid schedule based out of any of our offices in Arizona, Colorado, or Utah. This role is responsible for proactively identifying upcoming federal, state, local, and tribal contracting opportunities and evaluating which of those opportunities are the best strategic fit for Logan Simpson to begin pre-positioning against - through capture planning, teaming, client engagement, and relationship-building well ahead of a solicitation's release.

You'll research and evaluate each opportunity, then advise the relevant service line leaders on which ones are worth pursuing. This is an ideal opportunity for a professional with an interest in research, public policy, environmental studies, or a related field who wants to use research analysis to inform business strategy.

Who We Are:

Founded in 1990, Logan Simpson is made up of a team of 170 talented professionals across six offices in the western United States. We are experts in environmental planning, cultural resource management, community planning, and landscape architecture design services. Our mission remains simple: working together to guide responsible change. From the beginning, our founders were focused on protecting natural resources and advancing the wellbeing of our communities. We take pride in adding new staff members to our team who share our values of integrity, creativity, excellence, empowerment, stewardship, and teamwork.

Your Key Responsibilities:

  • Research upcoming public funding sources (federal grants, state and local grants, and city or county capital budgets) to spot potential projects early, often before they're formally announced.
  • Check city and county Capital Improvement Plans (CIPs) using a tracking tool, working with others on the team to confirm whether specific projects have actually been funded.
  • Track legally required plan updates to flag which jurisdictions will need related services soon.
  • Watch for jurisdictions missing a plan they should have (for example, a city with historic buildings but no historic preservation plan), since these gaps often point to future opportunities.
  • Research and maintain a running list of long-term leads across the states we work and share updates with the team.
  • Track federal IDIQ/BPA/MATOC contracts so the firm can preposition ourselves.
  • Monitor projects funded through state and local grant programs to see whether they move forward or get dropped, so no lead falls through the cracks.
  • Pass along qualified, high-fit opportunities to the relevant service line leaders with a recommendation on whether to pursue.
  • Track industry trends, regulatory changes, and funding shifts (e.g., infrastructure funding, tribal broadband programs, NEPA policy updates) that could create future opportunities.
  • Support broader business development activities, including market research, opportunity tracking, pursuit planning, and CRM or pursuit-tracking system updates.
  • Help identify client and teaming partner relationships.

What You’ll Bring:

  • 1-2 years of research, market intelligence, business development, or a related analytical role (internships count).
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as business, public policy, environmental science/policy, planning, political science, or a related discipline.
  • Strong research skills, including the ability to navigate public procurement databases and government planning/budget documents.
  • Proactive, detail-oriented, and organized.
  • Familiarity with federal, state, tribal, and local government procurement.
  • Strong research, organization, and written and verbal communication skills.
  • Comfortable learning and using AI tools to support research, analysis, and writing.
  • Ability to synthesize information into clear, digestible summaries for service line leads.
  • Comfort working across multiple service lines and offices.
  • Good interpersonal skills, and a desire to work both independently and in a team environment.

What We Offer:

  • Compensation: This is a full-time position paid on a salaried basis between $62,000 to $75,000 annually, depending on experience and education.
  • Benefits – A comprehensive benefits package which includes medical, dental and vision plans, paid Life/AD&D, Short-Term and Long-Term Disability coverage, Paid Family Leave, a 401(k) with a firm match, and a robust Employee Assistance Program with free counseling and mental health services.
  • Time Off – Paid Time Off starting at 18 days per year available as accrued, plus 9 paid holidays.
  • Professional Development – Support for professional conferences and trainings, internal leadership development and innovation program, tuition reimbursement, bonus programs for peer-reviewed publications and academic achievements, and work on a variety of interesting projects.
  • Perks – Wellness program with $125 annual Wellness Bucks allowance, paid Costco memberships, Babies-at-Work program, paid parking, and paid public transit costs.
  • Flexible Work Schedules – Hybrid work schedule allowing for 2 days of remote work per week depending on the position, plus flexible schedules such as 4 x 10, 9 x 80, or 4 ½ day schedules.
