What are the responsibilities and job description for the Youth Counselor Full Time and Part Time position at Logan River Academy, LLC?
- Position:** Rec-Res Provisional Counselor (RCP)
- Reports to:** Designated Senior Rec-Res Counselor (SRC)
- Status**: Non-Exempt. Dining with students and weekend rotations required.
- Rotating Shifts:** Evenings run from 2:45p to 11:15p
Nights begin at 10:45p for either 8 or 10 hours
- JOB SUMMARY: ** RCP is on probation for the first 90 days of employment with the full expectation that s/he attains RC1 status on the 91st day with an increased wage. This is a learning and growing time, and probation may be extended if training and on-campus performance do not meet expected standards. During this time the RCP will master knowledge in both the Student-Parent Handbook and the Employee Handbook as well as any supporting policies and procedures that trainers deem helpful. Shadowing and hands-on experiences will begin within the first two weeks of employment.
- POSITION EXPECTATIONS**:
- Completes required Orientation and Training modules successfully
- Demonstrates a working knowledge of information in the Handbooks
- Studies the Behavioral Improvement Plans (BIPs) of each student
- Establishes positive and effective relationships quickly with students and staff
- Exhibits an understanding of the importance of maintaining professional boundaries
- Works with SRCs, RC2s and RC1s to implement meaningful activities for students
- Observes and practices using de-escalation skills, interventions and consequences
- Works with students to ensure campus areas are clean, orderly and presentable
- Responds positively to a supervisor's request to perform other duties
- Completes work thoroughly, promptly, and efficiently
- Supports approved decisions, responsibly completing tasks with minimal supervision
- Holds self and students accountable for doing the right things
- Is responsive and responsible, acknowledging verbal requests, phone, text, and emails
- Maintains confidentiality and professionalism as a representative of LRA
- Knows learning and safety expectations for students which define the LRA culture
- Demonstrates an understanding of the Phase System; consistently using it with students
- Supports and promotes the LRA values/norms (I AGER); and wants to work with us
- Greets all visitors, parents and reviewers with a smile and the utmost respect
**QUALIFICATIONS**
- High School Diploma. Able to pass thorough background screening
- CPR & First Aid certified or successful completion within first two weeks
- Successful completion of LRA's Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training
**PHYSICAL DEMANDS**
- Able to learn to observe student behavior interactions accurately
- Able to learn to safely apply de-escalation actions
- Able to learn to safely participate when behaviors require hands-on restraints
- Able to run and walk to keep eyes on a potential AWOL student
