Electrical Engineer – Custom Magnetics, Transformers & Coils (BSEE)

Lodal
Winsted, CT Full Time
POSTED ON 7/10/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 11/7/2026

Design the Components Others Can't.

At Dufrane Technologies, we don't build commodity products.

We solve unique engineering challenges by designing, reverse engineering, and manufacturing custom transformers, inductors, chokes, electromagnets, air-core coils, and other wound magnetic components for industrial, aerospace, defense, medical, scientific, and OEM applications.

Many of the components we produce cannot be purchased off the shelf. Our customers come to us when they need a replacement for obsolete equipment, a custom solution for a new application, or a partner capable of taking an idea from concept through manufacturing.

If you enjoy solving technical problems, working directly with manufacturing, and seeing your designs become real products, we'd like to talk.

What You'll Do

As a member of our engineering team, you will:

  • Design custom transformers, inductors, chokes, coils, electromagnets, and related magnetic assemblies.
  • Reverse engineer legacy and obsolete magnetic components.
  • Develop electrical, thermal, and mechanical designs that are practical to manufacture.
  • Select magnetic cores, winding methods, conductor types, insulation systems, and materials.
  • Build prototypes and evaluate product performance.
  • Develop test procedures and analyze electrical performance.
  • Work directly with machinists, winding technicians, and production personnel to move products from concept into manufacturing.
  • Create engineering drawings, Bills of Materials, specifications, and manufacturing documentation.
  • Provide technical support to customers and manufacturing throughout the product lifecycle.

What We're Looking For

We're looking for an engineer who enjoys solving problems—not just designing catalog products.

Required Qualifications

  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or equivalent industry experience.
  • 3 years designing magnetic components, transformers, coils, inductors, or related electrical products.
  • Strong understanding of electromagnetic principles and magnetic circuit design.

  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.

Experience With Any of the Following Is a Plus

  • Custom transformers
  • Toroidal transformers

  • Work on a wide variety of unique engineering projects.
  • Collaborate directly with manufacturing and customers.
  • Influence product design from concept through production.
