Structural Engineer Intern - Summer 2026

ROLE SUMMARY

The Structural Engineering Intern role is designed to provide students with exposure to real-world structural design processes within a precast concrete manufacturing environment. Interns will shadow engineers and designers, assist with engineering tasks, and learn how projects move from design through production. This internship emphasizes learning and professional growth—giving students opportunities to observe, contribute, and apply classroom knowledge to practical engineering challenges.

LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES / RESPONSIBILITIES

• Learn how engineering projects progress from quotation and award through manufacturing.
• Assist with updating design calculations and programming tools under guidance.
• Gain exposure to producing mix designs and performing simple design calculations.
• Shadow engineers to understand common precast repair procedures and workflows.
• Support the review of drawings and design submittals against contract plans.
• Learn how to create 3D models and designs using engineering software.
• Assist in preparing presentations on the design and fabrication process.
• Become familiar with ASTM and ACI design criteria, design loadings, and SCC mix design concepts.
• Participate in special projects or process improvement initiatives as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, with a focus in structural engineering preferred.
• Strong interest in design, structural calculations, and applied engineering.
• Familiarity with Microsoft Office and CAD software; exposure to modeling tools preferred.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Initiative, enthusiasm, and eagerness to learn in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to work a minimum of 20 hours per week during the internship.

Preferred:

• EIT certification or upper-division coursework in engineering design.
• Prior exposure to structural design or precast construction is a plus.
