Intensive Support Room Teacher (grades 5-8)
Summary:
Provide educational and personal/social service for Emotionally Impaired students.
Duties include classroom instruction and development of behavioral management strategies.
Responsible for planning instruction and/or adaption of the education program to enable students
to benefit from educational experiences.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Other duties may be assigned
- Lead and/or facilitate teaching of individuals in 1:1, small group, or whole class instruction.
- Implement the educational program and related services as outlined in the assigned students’ IEP using an approved curriculum (EX. these would be a curriculum to help fill the gap to support students in your room. Math and Reading support.)
- Maintain supervision and safety of students at all times
- Maintain lesson plans for students
- Collaborate with students, parents, service providers and other members of the Gen Ed staff
- Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies for a positive learning environment
- Appropriately communicate with all team members regarding student progress and/or concerns
- Use appropriate behavior management techniques
- Create, complete, and update IEPs; maintain required records and data
- Supervise educational assistants / Paras
- Assist in collecting data for behavioral or academic progress
- Initiate and follow through with behavioral interventions as designated by the student's individual plans
- Participate in planning meetings regarding classroom curricular expectations as well as student needs across all developmental areas
- Assist individual students as necessary to follow routines, follow directions, follow an individual schedule, and/or complete tasks
- Monitor students at all times including on/off the bus, lunch, and times of transition
- Meet students in the morning to unload buses and assist with loading or unloading as necessary
- Assist with students requiring self-help skills in the areas of safety, eating, and toileting
- Prepare room daily for instruction in the morning or end of the day
- Assist in helping a student develop necessary skills in the general education environment
- Commitment to working with individuals with disabilities, especially those with significant academic and behavioral challenges
- Physical demands include: standing, walking, bending, reaching and lifting and/or moving students
- Demonstrate a pattern of excellent attendance
- Ability and willingness to perform lifts and transfers and assist with personal care needs of students
- Flexibility to work in many different environments and work situations for job training
- Maintain confidentiality of records and student matters.

Certificates, Licenses Registrations: Valid Michigan teaching certificate with full or temporary
approval in Emotionally Impaired.
Employment Date, Salary and Work Year
Anticipated start date will be determined upon hire. The salary is determined as per the master contract. Workdays will be 7 hours/day, 185 days.
