Job Summary
Loaves and Fishes Ministries Emergency Shelter provides temporary shelter to individuals who are experiencing homelessness. Shelter staff assists clients with all of their basic needs while establishing and maintaining an environment for clients that is consistent with the values of Loaves and Fishes Ministries. Specific duties include the completion of intakes, monitoring client activities, creating a safe environment by conducting random checks of dorm rooms, monitoring of the security system, light janitorial responsibilities and meal preparation.
Hours and Pay: Wages $16.00 an hour 32-40 hours a week

- Consistently report to work on time prepared to perform duties of position.
- Ambassador for Loaves and Fishes Ministries along with all employees, and responsible for the marketing and promoting the organization and its program both internally and externally.
- Lead in being a heartfelt team member of Loaves and Fishes Ministries.
- Display Christ-like qualities in attitudes, work, interpersonal relationship and action.
- Assist in communicating our mission and core values in word and deed inside and outside of the program.
- Help plan program events such as fundraisers, graduations, and other special events.
Duty and Responsibilities:
- Provide consistent coverage for assigned shifts, working within the team and independently to complete all shift tasks.
· Monitors and supervises shelter and client affairs, assists clients with needs and questions and maintains shelter order in accordance with the Loaves and Fishes Shelter Policy and Procedures.
- Receives new clients, complete intake paperwork, orient client to our policies and procedures. Complete exit paperwork when client leaves the shelter.
- Perform general administration functions such as making notes in the communication book, answering phone, responding to in-person inquires in a professional manner.
- Monitor the activities of clients to ensure safety of clients, volunteers, and staff.
- Help clients resolve any issues that may arise.
- Helps volunteers with questions or issues when necessary.
- Provide crisis intervention as needed, including determining when it is necessary to involve other staff, medical professionals, and law enforcement.
- Complete written Incident Reports in accordance to our policy and procedures.
- Report any problems to the Shelter Program Director or the Executive Director.
- Attend monthly staff meetings and trainings as required.
- Janitorial responsibilities.
- Prepare meals and serve meals up to 60 people.
Qualifications, Experience and Abilities
- Minimum High School Diploma or equivalent
· Experience is preferred in the following areas: homelessness, mental health related issues, substance abuse, or poverty issues.
· Ability to establish and maintain professional boundaries in working with clients.
· Ability and willingness to perform janitorial duties and occasional lifting up to 30 pounds.
· Knowledge of community resources in our area.
· Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast paced, stressful and changing environment.
· Demonstrates a positive attitude, self-motivation, organization, and resourcefulness.
· Ability to assess emergency situations and respond effectively.
· Ability to negotiate different personalities and have experience in de-escalating situations.
· Demonstrate proficiency using Microsoft Office.
· Must complete HMIS training within 30 days.
· Must be prompt and dependable.
Physical Requirements:
· Ability to coordinate eyes, hands, feet and limbs performing semi-skilled movements
· Ability to exert sustained moderate physical effort in light work, typically involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling, lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling.
· Ability to recognize and identify similarities or differences between characteristics of colors and sounds associated with job-related objects, materials and tasks.
