Join our team as a Technical Artist to help build and optimize the next generation of game development tools for partner studios. As a Technical Artist focused on tooling and workflow automation, you’ll create solutions that eliminate redundant manual tasks, reduce errors, and streamline the creative process for game developers. You’ll leverage your deep understanding of 3D principles, Unity, and technical art to solve complex technical-visual challenges, assist in shader development, animation optimization, and performance tuning—empowering teams to deliver world-class games efficiently. Essential Job Functions: Design, develop, and maintain tools and workflows that enhance the efficiency and quality of game development in Unity. Collaborate with developers, artists, and designers to identify pain points and automate repetitive or error-prone tasks. Build and optimize editor extensions, content pipelines, and workflow wizards for game creators. Solve technical-visual challenges related to 3D assets, shaders, animation, and rendering. Assist in shader development, animation optimization, and overall performance tuning. Advocate for best practices in technical art, workflow design, and tool usability. Conduct user research and usability testing with internal and partner teams to inform tool development. Document tools, workflows, and technical solutions for easy adoption and knowledge sharing. Stay current with trends in game engine tooling, automation, and technical art. Our studio is located in Raleigh, North Carolina. We're offering a lump sum payment to assist with relocation for out of states candidates! This role requires full-time on-site presence, with plans to move to a hybrid structure as the studio matures. Qualifications Training and experience: 5 years of professional experience in technical art, game development, or tooling. Experience building tools, editor extensions, or automation solutions for game engines (Unity preferred). Gaming industry experience is preferred, but not required. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Strong knowledge of 3D principles, asset pipelines, and technical art workflows. Proficient in Unity (C# experience in editor/tooling scripts a plus). Experience with shader development, animation optimization, and performance tuning. Ability to identify and solve developer pain points through tool creation and workflow automation. Familiarity with Python, MEL, or other scripting languages for automation is a plus. Excellent communication and collaboration skills. Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment. Enjoy working in a creative, innovative environment. Proficient in Adobe After Effects, Adobe Photoshop, and Adobe Illustrator. Proficiency in 3D animation a plus (e.g., 3DS Max or Maya). Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience required.
