Role Description Under the direction of the Assistant General Manager or designee, the Environmental Health & Safety Manager is expected to inspire and lead their teams by setting the example and driving the 5 C’s (Care, Commit, Connect, Communicate, & Celebrate).


The Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) Manager is a full-time, on-site role based in Detroit, MI. This role is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining EHS programs, policies, and procedures that comply with regulatory requirements and company standards. Day-to-day tasks include conducting workplace inspections, assessing risk, and leading incident and accident investigations to identify root causes and corrective actions. The EHS Manager will coordinate and deliver training on safety practices, environmental compliance, and occupational health topics, while promoting a strong safety culture across all departments. This position also collaborates with operations, human resources, and leadership teams to monitor performance metrics, drive continuous improvement initiatives, and support safe, sustainable manufacturing operations.


Qualifications

  • Strong knowledge and experience in Health & Safety and Occupational Health, with the ability to design and oversee workplace safety programs.
  • Expertise in Environment Health and Safety (EHS), including environmental compliance, regulatory requirements, and risk management in manufacturing settings.
  • Proficiency in Accident Investigation, including root cause analysis, corrective action planning, and incident reporting.
  • Experience in developing, delivering, and evaluating Training related to safety, environmental policies, and occupational health.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health and Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Familiarity with OSHA, EPA, and other relevant federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and coach cross-functional teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze data, use EHS metrics, and implement continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Experience in automotive or manufacturing environments is preferred.

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE:

  • Bachelor's degree in safety, Ergonomics, Industrial Hygiene or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 10 Hour OSHA Certification


EXPERIENCE:

Minimum of five (5) years of safety, ergonomic and environmental experience in a manufacturing environment.  Minimum of (5) five years in mamangement.


KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • Written, verbal and presentation skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills to handle sensitive and confidential situations.
  • Detailed oriented with good organizational skills.  
  • Good analytical, assessment and problem resolution skills.
  • Working knowledge of Federal and State occupational health and safety regulations; and demonstrated ability to provide guidance to the plant and ensure compliance. 
  • Working knowledge of ISO 14001.
  • Familiarity with ADA, FMLA and HIPPA.
  • Working knowledge of Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

  • WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL ABILITIES:

    Work performed in an office and manufacturing plant environments. Normal mobility to move around an office environment and plant floor, able to conduct normal amount of work at a computer. Frequently exposed to varying temperature within plant depending upon external weather condition. Frequently sits, walks, stands, grips/grasps, bends/stoops, crouches; and lifts and carries up to thirty (30) lbs within the office and manufacturing plant environment.
