Role Description The Truss Designer is a full-time, on-site role based in Mankato, MN, responsible for creating accurate truss layouts and designs for a variety of building projects. Day-to-day tasks include interpreting architectural drawings and specifications, using truss design software to develop structural solutions, and preparing detailed plans and material lists for production. The role involves coordinating with sales, production, and construction teams to ensure designs meet structural requirements, building codes, and customer expectations. The Truss Designer will respond to design inquiries, adjust plans based on field feedback or engineering review, and help resolve technical issues related to truss systems. This position requires careful attention to detail, strong communication skills, and a commitment to safety and quality in all design work.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated understanding of truss design principles and structural behavior of Truss systems.
- Knowledge of Timber construction, including lumber grades, connections, and common framing practices.
- Ability to read, interpret, and work from Architectural Drawings and construction documents.
- Familiarity with Structural Engineering concepts as they relate to load paths, spans, and code compliance.
- Strong Customer Service skills and ability to collaborate with builders, contractors, and internal teams.
- Experience with truss design or CAD software and basic proficiency in MS Office tools.
- Strong math skills, spatial reasoning, and attention to detail for accurate design and calculations.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills and ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; technical training or degree in drafting, construction technology, or engineering is preferred.
