Position Summary:
The Senior Staff Accountant is responsible for managing complex accounting functions, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, and delivering accurate, timely financial reporting. This role demands strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and the ability to interpret financial data to support organizational decision-making. The Senior Staff Accountant will directly support the Controller with month-end close, audit preparation, and process improvement initiatives that drive operational efficiency and financial accuracy.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and analyze financial statements in accordance with GAAP and company policy.
- Perform monthly account reconciliations to ensure accuracy and identify discrepancies.
- Investigate and resolve variances and inconsistencies using strong analytical reasoning.
- Prepare and post journal entries to maintain the integrity of the general ledger.
- Support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities to ensure timely reporting.
- Analyze financial trends and identify opportunities for process improvement and cost savings.
- Provide audit support by preparing schedules, documentation, and explanations as requested.
- Supervise and mentor junior accounting staff, ensuring adherence to accounting standards and timelines.
- Recommend financial strategies to enhance revenue, reduce costs, and improve overall fiscal health.
- Maintain compliance with all federal, state, and local financial and tax regulations.
- Perform ad-hoc financial reporting and analysis as requested by accounting leadership.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (required).
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in general ledger accounting, including journal entry preparation and account reconciliation.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in the health insurance or healthcare industry.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Dynamics 365.
- Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, and data analysis).
