CMM Applications Engineer

JOB PURPOSE :

The Coordinate Measuring Machine Applications Engineer plays a key role in the successful implementation of our 3D metrology software and hardware products, providing quality demonstrations, benchmarking and technical support for the various hardware and software products at an LK office or at a customer’s facility throughout North America. The individual will be utilizing his/her expert knowledge of these metrology products in all industries, including automotive, aerospace, agriculture, medical, etc. to ensure successful system integrations.

Key Areas of Responsibility:

• Professionally represent LK Metrology at all times.
• Assist customers with understanding and applying LK Metrology Coordinate Measuring Machine hardware and software systems.
• Provide technical support, training, and guidance to customers, distributors/dealers, and internal sales and service field staff.
• Evaluate and benchmark customer applications, define technical requirements, develop CMM/part programs, inspect customer components, and translate customer requirements into internal technical specifications and communications.
• Prepare and deliver technical presentations and demonstrations of software, products, systems, and tooling solutions to customers, both onsite and in-house, in support of sales activities.
• Assist with trade show preparation, demonstrations, and technical support.
• Provide technical support to Sales Managers throughout the sales process, including customer presentations, system and tooling recommendations, bid strategy, and technical closure of sales opportunities through the final presented solution.
• Coordinate customer application and qualification activities, including product requirements reviews, gap analyses, sample delivery, and cross-functional activities required to support customer needs.
• Participate in product/process evaluations and market introduction of new products.
• Plan and coordinate demonstration logistics, including proper packaging and efficient shipment of demonstration equipment while maintaining a recommended shipment lead time of at least two weeks.
• Comply with all relevant provisions of the employee handbook and confidentiality requirements.

Ancillary responsibilities

• Ability to quickly assess and respond to customer software/application issues and support questions while understanding and prioritizing the urgency of customer needs.
• Aid with software and system testing in support of product development.
• Provide dealer/partner support and training.
• Provide trade show support.
• Teach CMM software training classes both in-house and onsite.
• Assist in distributing pertinent technical information to sales personnel.
• Oversee and maintain demonstration equipment and demonstration center(s).
• Ensure applicable standards and specifications alignment and compliance, including ISO and ANSI.
• Recommend design improvements to enhance product performance and ease of use.
• Log and track customer communications, demonstrations, and projects in the CRM.

Qualifications

• A bachelor’s degree in engineering (or related field) or equivalent technical experience
• 3-5 Years of technical work experience is preferred.
• Good overall understanding of the ASME Y14.5 standard
• Strong Metrology background with knowledge of various hardware and software products needed.
• Ability to read and understand engineering drawings.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office
• Good communication skills both verbally and written in English (additional languages are a benefit)
• Strong technical interest combined with common business sense
• Hands-on person showing systematic approach to handle complex problems
• Experience with a DMIS-based CMM software, CMM-Manager and/or Polyworks beneficial.
• Willing to travel regularly (~50%), mostly Monday - Friday

Pay: $65,000.00 - $95,000.00 per year
