About the Company
LK Architecture is seeking a Director of Electrical Engineering. In this exempt, full-time leadership role, you will champion departmental operations, mentor a high-performing team, and cultivate executive-level client relationships.
As a licensed Professional Engineer with at least 10 years of experience, you will balance high-level strategic management with hands-on technical execution. You will report directly to the President/CEO and COO, working under minimal supervision to drive engineering excellence, maintain rigorous quality standards, and support firm-wide business growth.
Key Responsibilities
Departmental Leadership & People Management
- Team Oversight: Manage scheduling, assign personnel, and balance workloads across multiple simultaneous projects based on individual strengths.
- Talent Development: Drive hiring, conduct performance appraisals, deliver salary recommendations, and provide continuous technical mentorship and training.
- Operations: Develop and refine departmental policies, technical standards, and interdepartmental workflows. Review and approve team timesheets.
Project Execution & Technical Mastery
- Senior Engineering: Step in as a Senior Engineer 6 when necessary to meet complex project demands, tight schedules, and company goals.
- Construction Documents: Produce and review high-quality construction drawings utilizing Revit and AutoCAD to meet strict deadlines.
- Specifications & Codes: Edit project specification sections, maintain the company "Master Set," and resolve non-routine code issues with local officials.
- Studies & Reports: Conduct engineering studies, analyze existing systems, design schematic layouts, and author comprehensive Design Narratives.
Construction Administration & Quality Control
- Quality Assurance: Conduct rigorous reviews of your own work and departmental deliverables to ensure flawless accuracy and code compliance.
- Field Oversight: Manage submittal reviews, respond to complex RFIs, conduct site visits to monitor progress, and publish timely Site Observation Reports.
- File Management: Maintain strict adherence to the department’s digital file structure and oversee project archiving.
Executive Management & Business Development
- Client Relations: Build and sustain strong client relationships through regular engagement, serving as a trusted technical advisor.
- Growth Initiatives: Actively contribute to business development efforts, attend client meetings, and deliver compelling presentations.
- Financial Accountability: Determine project budget hours and retain ultimate accountability for completing departmental projects within budget.
Position Requirements
Experience & Education
- Experience: Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in electrical engineering design and departmental leadership.
- Licensure: Must be a licensed Professional Engineer (PE).
Technical Skills
- Software Proficiency: Expert-level knowledge of Revit and AutoCAD.
- Discipline Applications: Proficient in EasyPower, Visual or AGI 32, ComCheck, and Cummins PowerSuite.
- Code Knowledge: Advanced, up-to-date understanding of applicable national and local electrical and building codes.
Core Competencies
- Communication: Exceptional written, verbal, and presentation skills for internal teams and corporate clients.
- Availability: Flexibility to attend early, late, or off-site meetings, and travel as required for project, department, or business development needs.
