Within our Underground Services Practice, we are seeking a Senior Tunnel Engineer based in Boston, MA. The ideal candidate will have 10 years of experience working on geotechnical, underground, tunnel, or trenchless construction projects, including both design and construction management roles and possess the professional and interpersonal skills to make a positive impact on our firm and the clients we serve.

Annual Compensation: $85,000 – 140,000 based upon experience, certifications, and regional market standards.

Senior Tunnel Engineer Essential Functions

• Manage tasks, projects, and technical staff.
• Prepare construction plans and specifications, structural/ geotechnical calculations and design reports, as well as technical memoranda.
• Produce design calculations (including numerical analysis) as required in support of tunnel and trenchless design including support of excavation (shafts & tunnels – including connection details and complex structures), and adherence to all local and national codes of practice for concrete, steel, and timber design.
• Oversee the completion of geotechnical investigations in both soil and rock geology.
• Develop design parameters from geotechnical reports.
• Prepare Technical Memoranda, Geotechnical Data Reports (GDR’s), and Geotechnical Baseline Reports (GBR’s).
• Increase Aldea/LJB’s visibility with internal and external professionals by participating in regional initiatives, conferences, committees, and community associations, including any identified industry activities.
• Other duties as assigned.
• Field based assignments will include weekdays, night, and weekend work. Office based assignments will require a standard weekday business hours work schedule.
  
  

Education

SENIOR TUNNEL ENGINEER ESSENTIAL CREDENTIALS:

• Bachelor’s degree in relevant area of study required (Civil, Structural, Geological/Geotechnical, or related field)
• Master’s degree preferred.
  
  

Qualifications

• 10 years of relevant experience including project experience in the planning, design, and construction of a variety of tunnel and trenchless projects.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license is preferred but not required.
• Excellent problem solving, decision making and teamwork skills.
• Excellent technical writing skills and attention to detail.
• Excellent communication skills, a thorough knowledge of relevant technical codes, operations, processes, and trends.
• Ability to work weekdays, nights, and weekends within the field.
• Ability to work a standard weekday work schedule during business hours within the office.
• Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, contractors, and clients.
• Ability to work independently, exercise independent judgment, interact with other staff, collaborate with other disciplines, and mentor junior staff.
