Sr. BI Developer - Finance & Accounting

POSITION OVERVIEW: The Sr. BI Developer will be responsible for creating and supporting a self-service reporting model for Finance and Accounting. This role will use SQL queries to transform and consolidate information from multiple operational databases, publish cleaned data as semantic models in Power BI, and support downstream report builders with guidance on DAX, visualization best practices, and workspace administration. As a senior-level role, this position is expected to operate independently with minimal supervision.

A TYPICAL DAY MIGHT INCLUDE:

Self-Service Reporting Model Development

• Writing SQL queries to transform and consolidate Finance and Accounting data from multiple operational databases
• Analyzing complex data scenarios and trace data through systems to understand sources, dependencies, and downstream reporting impacts
• Understanding the meaning behind the data and how it can be used to create reliable business insights
• Identifying opportunities to improve data quality through system design, process improvement, and reporting model structure
  
  

Power BI Semantic Model Publishing and Administration

• Developing, publishing, and supporting semantic models through Power BI workspaces
• Supporting workspace administration, data model organization, and downstream report development standards
• Communicating how semantic models should be used to develop business insights and consistent reporting outputs
  
  

Training, Communication, and Independent Problem Solving

• Teaching DAX, visualization best practices, and workspace administration to report builders
• Communicating technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
• Applying a high level of attention to detail and logic-based problem solving when reviewing, building, and supporting reporting solutions
• Performing other finance systems, reporting, data, or accounting system duties as warranted or directed
  
  

PREFERRED EDUCATION/LICENSE/CERTIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, information systems, data analytics, business administration, or a related field preferred
• Relevant Microsoft, Power BI, SQL, data analytics, or reporting certifications are preferred
  
  

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• 10 years of relevant work experience in business intelligence, data analytics, finance systems, accounting systems, financial reporting, or related roles
• Expertise with accounting data, particularly financial reporting and project accounting data
• Expertise with Power BI, DAX, semantic models, and workspace administration
• Expertise with MS SQL, including query development, data transformation, consolidation, and troubleshooting across multiple databases
  
  

IDEALLY, YOU SHOULD ALSO HAVE:

• Strong understanding of Finance and Accounting processes, reporting needs, and operational database structures
• Experience working with ERP, accounting, or project accounting systems and the underlying data structures that support financial and operational reporting
• Familiarity with Microsoft Azure, Microsoft Fabric, data lake, data warehouse, or related cloud-based data platform concepts
• Working knowledge of data governance practices, including data definitions, ownership, lineage, quality controls, and reporting consistency standards
• Ability to evaluate data quality issues and recommend system or process improvements that improve reporting reliability
• Superior verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
• Strong analytical, logic-based problem-solving capabilities and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision
• Ability to teach, coach, and support report builders on DAX, visualization standards, and Power BI workspace practices
