POSITION OVERVIEW: As a Construction Inspector II at LJA ​Transportation ​, you will be responsible for possessing an understanding of the  Department of Transportation (DOT) construction contract documents, and CEI consultant processes and procedures. Primary focus is management of DOT and local government agency construction contracts for transportation projects, including but not limited to roadway, highway, bridges, and other structures. Projects may involve utilities, stormwater pollution prevention, temporary traffic control, lighting, signalization, drainage, asphalt and concrete pavement, ITS, earthwork, excavation, and other improvements.   

A TYPICAL DAY MIGHT INCLUDE:  

• Monitors the testing of construction materials. 
• Compiles necessary documents. 
• Compiles and maintains detailed project records including daily construction activities, daily photo log, weather conditions, time charges, daily quantities, and contractor’s resources, as needed. 
• Communicates through verbal and written means with contractors, developers, and engineers needed for job performance. 
• Performs onsite material testing and produces as-constructed sketches. 

Preferred EDUCATION/LICENSE/CERTIFICATIONS:  

• High School Diploma or Equivalent 
• ACI Grade I or NICET Level 1 
• Storm water Inspection Certification
• TxDOT construction inspection and SiteManager experience, or similar local government experience, preferred

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:  

• 5 – 10 years overall experience as an inspector for highway construction 
• Ability to perform work on active jobsite in safe, proficient manner required 
• Ability to represent LJA and its clients in a professional manner at all times 
• Must have a clear driving record; a DMV check will be conducted 

Physical Requirements:   

• Travel may be required 
• Job sites will have uneven ground and will require walking/standing for long periods of time; possible climbing 
• Work in inclement (hot/cold/rain) weather 
• Work non-standard hours/days, including some weekend or holiday work on occasion
