Under the general supervision and guidance of LJ Inc.'s Division Manager, the Shop Foreman is responsible for overseeing the daily operations, workflow, and personnel within the shop environment. This role provides direct supervision and support to shop employees engaged in fabrication, welding, equipment repair, maintenance, and related industrial service work.
The Shop Foreman is responsible for promoting a safe, productive, and organized work environment while ensuring work is completed efficiently, accurately, and in accordance with company standards, customer expectations, and applicable safety regulations. This position requires strong leadership, communication, problem-solving, and mechanical aptitude, along with the ability to coordinate labor, materials, and equipment to meet operational demands.
Essential Job Functions:
- Supervise and coordinate daily shop activities and personnel.
- Assign jobs and manage workflow to support timely completion.
- Inspect work to ensure quality standards and specifications are met.
- Coordinate the movement, staging, and organization of materials, parts, tools, and equipment within the shop.
- Troubleshoot shop-related issues and provide guidance to team members.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment.
- Enforce company policies, procedures, and safety regulations.
- Train, support, and evaluate shop personnel.
- Monitor productivity and shop efficiency.
- Promote teamwork, accountability, and professionalism within the shop environment.
- Ensure proper use and maintenance of tools and equipment.
- Perform hands-on shop work as needed, including welding, fabrication, repair, equipment operation, and general labor.
- Communicate regularly with management regarding shop progress, labor needs, material shortages, equipment concerns, and project updates.
- Verify outgoing materials and shipments are accurate and match load requirements.
- Other duties, as assigned.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or Equivalent.
- 3 years' experience in fabrication, welding, industrial maintenance, or related shop operations.
- 1 years' experience in a leadership, supervisory, or crew lead role preferred.
- Familiar with Industrial MSHA and OSHA standards.
- Proven strength in reading blueprints and technical drawings.
- Experience with MIG and stick welding required; additional welding/fabrication experience preferred.
- Valid, unrestricted Chauffeur's License or must be willing to obtain within 30 days of employment.
- Ability to effectively lead a team, delegate work, and hold employees accountable.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting ability.
