POSITION SUMMARY:
Performance of all routine duties in the hospital pharmacy under the supervision of the pharmacist. Ensures that pharmacy responsibilities are met according to Licensure & Regulations, Policy & Procedures and the State Pharmacy Board. Ensures each patient receives the correct medication at the lowest possible price in a timely manner.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES & AUTHORITIES:
- Places orders necessary to keep pharmacy supplies and merchandise well stocked.
- Unpacks and store supplies, verifies items received against invoices for pricing, and completeness. Files a
copy of the invoice in the pharmacy and with purchasing and fiscal services.
- Calculates and inputs pharmacy charges daily for both inpatients and outpatients.
- Fills out controlled substances records and keeps accurate inventory, with supervision of the pharmacist.
- Assists department director with preparing annual departmental budget.
- Assists pharmacist in conducting annual inventory.
- Does QI monitoring and turns in a monthly report.
- Attends P & T Committee meetings and records minutes.
- Assists in updating the policy and procedure manual accordingly and submits for approval by the pharmacist and P & T Committee.
- Responsible for ensuring all outdates and checklists are completed daily/monthly as required.
Position: Senior Pharmacy Technician
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Answers telephone, checks mail and other miscellaneous duties.
- Checks floor stock daily. Re-stocks Pyxis machine daily as necessary.
- Adds on new items requested by the medical staff to the formulary.
- Updates prices periodically to assure accuracy.
- Packages unit-dose medications and makes computer labels for them.
- Check shelves for outdated items and returns them to the manufacturer.
- Ensures other pharmacy technicians complete their assigned duties.
- Performs monthly unit inspections.
10. Other duties and activities as may be assigned by the pharmacist.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, ABILITIES):
High School Graduate. Applicant must be sufficiently literate to perform all duties associated with this position. Computer experience and some basic knowledge of drugs preferred. Vocational school or on the job training in the medical field (Medical Terminology) required.
OTHER SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, REGISTRATIONS, ETC.)
State Certification as a Pharmacy Technician preferred.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Hearing and Speech must be adequate to communicate effectively and efficiently with co-workers, general public and use of telephone. Visual Acuity must be sufficient to read all notices, procedural instructions and computer images. This is a highly mobile position and any mobility restriction would be counter productive to this position. Moderate physical exertion, lifting 25lbs or less is routine. Job tasks require a lot of walking, some climbing, stooping and long periods of standing.
