What are the responsibilities and job description for the Housekeeper/Custodian position at Livingston Hospital?
POSITION SUMMARY:
Works closely with other members of the Housekeeping Department, other organizational staff, patients, and families. Performs all hard tile floor care and major restoration functions in accordance with the standard procedures of the Housekeeping Department and the facility’s objectives. Use of commercial equipment, tools and supplies as dictated by the necessity of the specific job/task. Must have ability to use ladders.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES & AUTHORITIES:
1. Mopping and utilizing buffer to polish and finish floors.
2. Trash and infectious waste disposal.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Clean patient rooms and beds when patients are discharged during shift as requested by nursing staff.
2. Refills supplies in bathrooms if necessary.
3. Attends hospital safety and disaster training and in-services and seminars on application of chemicals and
maintaining equipment.
4. May be required to empty trash in patient rooms, lobby, lounges, restrooms, and other work areas if
necessary.
5. Light maintenance duties including but not limited to changing light bulbs and patient room care which
would include learning the basics about the beds, commodes, etc.
6. Performs other duties as assigned by Supervisor, Director and C.E.O.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, ABILITIES):
Ability to perform required tasks.
Ability to understand and follow directions given.
Must be able to demonstrate the correct use of equipment, tools, and supplies, and procedures after a training period of three months.
Ability to work with minimal supervision.

Position: Custodian/Maintenance
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Lifting up to 25 pounds. The ability to stand several hours at a time, stoop, bend, mop, and operate heavy floor buffer. Requires making repetitive motion with the wrists, hands, and fingers more than 75% of the time.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Subject to inside and outside environmental conditions. Exposure to chemicals and fumes. Requires working with equipment that causes moderate to high levels of vibration. May require wearing gloves, mask, body and eye protection.
