Job Summary

The Certified Athletic Trainer (AT) is responsible for providing high-quality patient care in a rural health clinic setting, working collaboratively with a variety of specialists, including but not limited to orthopedics, podiatry, cardiology, ENT, wound care, and general surgery. This position supports providers with patient intake, other designated provider assistance in clinic visits, and patient education.

Schedule

  • 0.8FTE (32 hours)
  • Monday - Friday
  • 8am-5pm

Compensation:

  • $25.25/hr DOE
  • Robust Benefits Package
  • No Weekend/Holiday Requirements

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist specialty providers with patient intake, medical history documentation, vitals collection, and preliminary assessments.
  • Perform clinical procedures including wound dressing changes, suture/staple removal, casting/splinting, and post-operative care under provider direction.
  • Provide patient education regarding pre- and post-procedure care, injury prevention, and chronic condition management.
  • Support specialty providers with in-office procedures, ensuring proper sterile techniques and patient safety.
  • Assist in coordination of referrals, imaging orders, and follow-up care.
  • Document patient interactions and procedures accurately in the electronic medical record (EMR) system.
  • Ensure exam rooms are properly stocked and prepared for specialty visits.
  • Educate patients on injury prevention, recovery strategies, and overall wellness related to musculoskeletal conditions.
  • Maintain a high level of communication with the care team to ensure continuity of care.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Participate in clinical workflow improvements to enhance efficiency and patient care.
  • Maintain compliance with state and federal regulations governing athletic trainers in a clinical setting.
  • Support ongoing quality improvement initiatives within the rural health clinic.
  • May include future field coverage opportunities for the local school district, to be determined based on clinic needs and candidate interest.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

ADDITIONAL Responsibilities

QUALIFICATIONS (Required)

  • Board of Certification (BOC) for Athletic Trainers.
  • State licensure (or eligibility) as an Athletic Trainer in Montana.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training, Master’s degree in Athletic Training or related field preferred.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Ability to function effectively within a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
  • Strong clinical skills, including proficiency in wound care, orthopedic procedures, and patient education.
  • Excellent communication and patient interaction skills.
  • High attention to detail and ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced clinical environment.
