What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Building Maintenance Mechanic position at Livingston County?
RESIDENCY– Candidates must have been legal residents of the following jurisdiction(s) for at least four months immediately preceding the date of the application:
- Livingston County, or
- One of the following Counties: Allegany, Genesee, Monroe, Ontario, Steuben or Wyoming
This work involves leading and participating in Livingston County maintenance duties under the direct supervision of a Building and Grounds Working Foreperson. An employee in this class both supervises and participates in the work which is of a general mechanical nature and may include mechanics, construction, grounds maintenance, carpentry, plumbing, heating, electrical work, masonry, painting, and other maintenance and/or cleaning work. This class differs from the Building Maintenance Mechanic position by virtue of the nature and extent of the supervision exercised. A Senior Building Maintenance Mechanic does related work as assigned.
- Leads and participates in the coordination and overall administration of the grounds, to include but not limited to the construction of various projects, the general maintenance of the grounds, and the supervision of seasonal employees;
- Leads and participates in the maintenance and repair of heating, plumbing, and other related electrical and mechanical equipment;
- Leads and participates in the repair and maintenance of buildings including painting, roofing, carpentry, and masonry;
- Leads and participates in ground keeping duties, including lawn care and snow removal;
- Leads and participates in building cleaning duties;
- Leads and participates in the coordination of overall administration of the mechanical shop and the equipment, to include preventative maintenance and tracking, along with shop fabrication;
- Requisitions equipment and supplies as requested;
- Assists in conducting periodic inspections of the condition of buildings and equipment to ascertain maintenance needs;
- Leads and assigns staff to various tasks in the absence of the Building and Grounds Working Foreperson;
- Assigns other maintenance staff to various maintenance and repair tasks and determines priority work; and
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

- Must be able to lift and carry a minimum of 50 pounds.
- Must be able to climb and work from ladders.
- Must be able to erect and work from scaffolding.
- Appropriate licensure must be maintained throughout employment.
- A driving record evidencing safe and responsible vehicle operation is required.
- Must authorize and execute any necessary releases to enable the appointing authority to verify licensure and driving history involving violations and/or crimes
NOTE: Livingston County residency is not a requirement for this position. However, Livingston County residents will be given preference in the hiring process.
