RESIDENCY: Candidates must have been legal residents of the following jurisdiction(s) for at least four months immediately preceding the date of the application:

  • Livingston County, or
  • One of the following Counties: Allegany, Genesee, Monroe, Ontario, Steuben or Wyoming

This work requires the performance of para-professional casework services to individuals, children and/or families. The Case Management Aide carries out prescribed plans to address the issues identified within the assigned case, with minimal leeway in determining the scope of work to be performed.  Supervision of others is not a responsibility of this class.  The work is defined and performed under the direct and general supervision of an experienced caseworker and/or division supervisory staff.   Work is performed in the office and in the field.  Employee must be willing and accessible to work overtime, evenings and weekends as needed.  A Case Management Aide does related work as assigned.
  • Receives referrals and instructions from professional staff members regarding implementation of the plan for service;
  • Meets and confers with professional staff members to become familiar with the background of the individual, child and/or family receiving casework services;
  • Assists in the formulation of individual casework plans;
  • Assists with establishing a working relationship with individuals, children and/or families to engage them with participating in recommended services;
  • Collaborates with internal staff as well as with community partners in carrying out service plans;
  • Assists with Independent Living Plans and monitors monthly income, bills and budgets for adults who are unable to manage their own finances with support and guidance from professional staff members;
  • Communicates observations to professional staff members to facilitate the appropriate casework assistance, and documents said observations within the case record;
  • Maintains a listing of community resources available to meet the service needs identified in the individual’s, child’s and/or families’ casework plan;
  • Contacts various service providers and family members in order to assure those referred receive the services designated by professional staff members;
  • Serves as a role model and assists in parenting education, budgeting, homemaking and shopping skills, assists individuals with housing related needs and facilitates/assists when needed;
  • Works with adults and adolescents regarding independent living goals;
  • May assist those referred with filling out required forms;
  • Completes case record documentation;
  • Provides case documentation to the caseworkers and or supervisor for their review;
  • Coordinates and/or directly provides transportation when needed; and
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS:  Working knowledge of the practices and procedures of para-professional casework; good computer use skills; ability to maintain cooperative relationships with others ability to express ideas clearly, both orally and in writing; ability to understand and follow oral and written directions; ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; ability to deal firmly yet courteously with the public; ability to keep accurate, clear, legible records and reports; ability to develop budgets; good powers of observation; tact and courtesy; good judgment; emotional maturity;  sensitivity to the reaction of others; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.

Training/ Education 
  • Possession of an Associate’s degree[1][2].
  • Completion of sixty undergraduate hours in a human services four year degree program[3].
  • Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma.
General experience 
  • None required.
  • None required.
  • Two years of full-time, paid experience in the provision of para- professional support services in the social work field with a public or private social agency adhering to acceptable standards.
Supervisory experience 
  • N.A.
License/ Certification 
  • Possession of a valid New York State driver’s license.

Part-time service will be given prorated credit toward experience requirements.

[3] Successfully completed means the applicant achieved a grade of at least 2.0.
 
  1. An appropriate driver’s license must be maintained throughout employment and the incumbent must possess an automobile for use on the job.  In the absence of these, alternate means of reliable transportation will be considered.
  2. Access to reliable transportation, which may be used to perform job duties, must be maintained throughout employment.
  3. A driving record evidencing safe and responsible vehicle operation is required. 
  4. Must authorize and execute any necessary releases to enable the appointing authority to verify licensure and driving history involving violations and/or crimes.

PROVISIONAL APPOINTMENT NOTICE:
An individual who receives a provisional appointment must take the examination for the position title on the next occasion it is offered. In order to be eligible for a permanent appointment to the position, the provisional appointee must pass the exam and be ranked 1, 2, 3, or be tied in score with the individual ranked number 3 of those who are willing to accept appointment to the position. It should be understood that even if the provisional appointee is eligible for appointment, the employer may choose another candidate to fill the position on a permanent basis. Questions regarding provisional appointments should be directed to the Livingston County Human Resources Department.

NOTE: Livingston County residency is not a requirement for this position. However, Livingston County residents will be given preference in the hiring process.
