Independent Living & Community Engagement Coordinator
Living Independence for Everyone (LIFE), Inc.
Jesup Location | Hybrid

Living Independence for Everyone (LIFE), Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to promote independent living and advance community change for everyone. As one of Georgia's Centers for Independent Living (CILs), LIFE serves a 20-county region through offices in Savannah and Jesup. Guided by the Independent Living Philosophy, we empower individuals with disabilities through advocacy, peer support, independent living skills training, information and referral, transition services, home modifications, assistive technology, and community engagement. We advocate personal responsibility - by and for people with disabilities - as a pathway to independence.

We're growing and looking for a friendly, enthusiastic individual who shares our passion for helping people with disabilities live independently. This position works directly with consumers while helping strengthen LIFE's presence throughout Southeast Georgia by building relationships, increasing awareness of LIFE's services, and connecting people with the resources they need. Because the position balances direct consumer services with community engagement across a large geographic area, we're looking for someone who is organized, self-motivated, comfortable working independently, and committed to staying connected with the larger LIFE team.

No two days are exactly alike, making this an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys building relationships, solving problems, and making a meaningful difference in their community. Training and mentorship will be provided to help the successful candidate transition into the role.

Qualifications

  • Passion for working with individuals with disabilities.
  • Working knowledge of, or willingness to learn, the Independent Living Philosophy, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and other disability-related laws, history, and regulations.
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or at least one year of experience providing direct human services. Personal experience with disability and/or independent living may substitute for certain education or work requirements.
  • Self-motivated with strong organizational, oral and written communication, relationship-building, and problem-solving skills. Demonstrated ability to think creatively, manage competing priorities, build collaborative working relationships, communicate proactively, and contribute positively as part of a team.
  • Familiarity with Southeast Georgia communities and resources is preferred, along with a willingness to learn about resources throughout LIFE's service area.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Word, and Excel, and the ability to learn and effectively use electronic recordkeeping and database systems.
  • Knowledge of, or willingness to learn about, assistive technology, home modifications, and community resources available to individuals with disabilities.
  • Valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and the ability to travel throughout LIFE's Southeast Georgia service area. LIFE reimburses mileage for approved work-related travel.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Provide Information & Referral services and support consumers through LIFE's Five Core Services.
  • Provide consumer-driven Independent Living services to help consumers identify goals, access resources, develop independent living skills, advocate for themselves, and achieve greater independence.
  • Participate in outreach events, community meetings, presentations, resource fairs, and other community engagement activities while building relationships with consumers, referral sources, and community partners to strengthen and expand awareness of LIFE's services throughout Southeast Georgia.
  • Identify community needs, barriers, and opportunities that improve access, inclusion, and independent living for people with disabilities.
  • Support home modification and assistive technology services, including consumer communication, site visits and measurements as needed, coordination with contractors, and related follow-through and documentation.
  • Help plan, facilitate, and support LIFE programs and services, including peer support and independent living skills activities, nursing home transition, Students for LIFE, social and community activities, and other LIFE initiatives as assigned.
  • Maintain accurate and timely consumer documentation in LIFE's consumer database (CIL Suite), along with required calendars, electronic records, and reporting, in accordance with LIFE's policies, procedures, and funding requirements.
  • Work collaboratively with LIFE staff across offices while managing assigned responsibilities independently, using regular in-person and virtual communication to coordinate consumer services, maintain continuity, and support organizational priorities.

The responsibilities listed above are not all-inclusive, and other duties may be assigned as necessary.
