Overview
The Grammar art teacher should possess a knowledge and understanding of art history, including classical artists and the historical context in which artists did their work. He or she should have a broad understanding of art as it relates to classical education, Christianity, and guiding children to become virtuous people. In order to promote a more holistic education and connect learning across content areas, the grammar art teacher should collaborate with core teachers and other specials teachers about curriculum, classroom management, behavior, and discipline. Strong classroom management skills and the ability to differentiate instruction and discipline according to grade level and development of the child is essential.
Characteristics of the Grammar Art Classroom:
-strong classroom management, structure, and predictable routines
-kind but firm redirection and discipline
-clear but attainable expectations
-learning about art history, historical context, classical artists, including their personal lives, and practice of art technique
-teaching through literature, imitatio (imitating the work of a master artist), picture studies, and modeling technique
Qualifications:- Genuine faith in Christ that is clearly expressed in daily life
- Passion for working with school aged students and their families
- BFA or 4-year degree with substantial art training and/or teaching experience
