The Senior Algorithm Developer contributes to the research and development of medical device products in support of LivaNova Innovation objectives. The purpose of this position is to develop algorithms for commercial products that meet customers' needs and expectations of performance, safety and quality by applying thorough research and algorithm development principles. Additionally, the position leverages algorithm development principles for data analysis, feature extraction and event detection and develops prototype algorithm designs for potential features concluding in creation and execution of feasibility test plans.

Primary Activites

  • Initiate and drive innovation of various algorithm development initiatives ranging from event detection, ML/AI and signal processing supporting medical hardware technologies in companies core indications (epilepsy/sleep apnea/depression).

  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams, internal and external stakeholders, gather information, needs and wants to meet algorithm development objectives.

  • Act as a source of knowledge and subject matter expertise in algorithms, signal processing, and therapeutic and/or diagnostic technologies.

  • Defining and decomposing design inputs and outputs of algorithmic functions and tasks, to enable each applicable function to assess, verify and validate algorithm performance.

  • Analyzing and comparing technological tradeoffs to enable cross-functional decisions including, for example, algorithm sensitivity, specificity and false detections, algorithm power consumption, algorithm processing speed, and if applicable design and sensor/hardware evaluations.

  • Research various subjects ranging from published clinical studies, sensor technologies, hardware, medical scholar articles and therapies.

  • Developing algorithm design verification and validation strategies in collaboration with functional owners to demonstrate that design outputs meet algorithm performance requirements.

  • Investigating, researching, planning, implementing and/or leading the developments of algorithms, while tracking and documenting the algorithm full development cycle.

General Responsibilities

  • Meet LivaNova Innovation milestones including developing algorithms that improve current product functionality, develop features and products that enhance and improve therapies and research new therapies and technologies that can better patient and/or caregiver quality of life.

  • Comply with LivaNova Quality Management procedures and applicable regulations and standards resulting in quality records.

  • Develop and document full cycle algorithm design from conception to execution and validation.

  • Collaborate with various disciplines such as marketing, Clinical, clinical engineering, hardware and firmware to define algorithms and technologies that support patients and physicians needs that also comply with system limitations such as energy consumption, memory etc.

  • Support verification and validation activities both for new and existing algorithms and technologies.

  • Contribute to risk management including assessing algorithm performance and methods to improve and/or medicate non optimal performance.

  • Lead design verification strategies along side with verification and validation teams to create test bench frame works to challenge algorithms and technologies and make sure performance is up to specified requirements.

  • Contribute to the intellectual property position of the company by recording and submitting invention proposals.

  • Maintain current knowledge of competitive and state of the art technologies and algorithms.

  • Recognize and analyze technical problems and provide possible solutions, such as automation, pattern recognition, statistical analysis and various sensor technologies.

  • Remain UpToDate in both clinical research and technologies associated with LivaNova therapies and technology.

  • Perform other duties as may be requested by management.

  • Work daily with a high level of integrity and promote a diverse and inclusive workplace culture in both people and thought consistent with LivaNova values.

Education

  • Master of Science (BS) or higher degree in an engineering discipline or equivalent.

  • Preferred degree in Physics, Applied Physics, Biophysics, Biomedical Engineering, Clinical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering or equivalent.

  • Preferred academic research background.

Experience

  • 7 years of relevant professional experience with a Master's degree or 4 years of relevant professional experience with a PhD.

  • Matlab programing, Python programing.

  • Machine learning, pattern recognition, signal processing, statistical analysis, image processing.

  • Engineering/scientific research.

  • Preferred experience in algorithm execution in hardware products.

  • Preferred algorithm implementation in C/C and/or embedded firmware.

  • Preferred prototyping development and design of proof of concept/ feasibility

Travel Requirements

  • Mild travel may be required (up to 5%)

Pay Transparency

  • A reasonable estimate of the annual base salary for this position is $130,000 - $150,000 plus discretionary annual bonus. Pay ranges may vary by location.
