Operated by the Liu Shiming Art Foundation, the gallery serves as a vibrant hub for exhibitions, public programs, artist engagement, and cross-cultural exchange.
Position Summary:
We are seeking a passionate and experienced Gallery Director / Curator to lead the artistic vision and programming at the Liu Shiming Art Gallery. The ideal candidate will develop and execute exhibitions, public programs, and community initiatives that further the foundation’s mission to honor Liu Shiming’s legacy and promote cultural understanding.

Compensation:
$80,000–$100,000 per year, commensurate with experience

Key Responsibilities:
l Exhibition Planning & Curation
1. Research, plan, and curate exhibitions aligned with the gallery’s mission
2. Select artworks and coordinate with artists, collectors, and institutions
3. Oversee exhibition design, installation, and de-installation
4. Develop interpretive materials such as wall texts, catalogs, and educational panels
l Collection & Artist Relations
1. Build and maintain relationships with artists, scholars, collectors, and partner galleries
2. Identify established and emerging artists for potential collaborations
3. Manage artwork loans and ensure proper care and documentation
l Public Programs & Community Engagement
1. Organize artist talks, panel discussions, tours, and public programs
2. Collaborate with educational and community partners to expand audience engagement
l Marketing, Communications & Fundraising
1. Partner with the marketing team to promote exhibitions and events
2. Support grant writing, sponsorship development, and donor cultivation
3. Represent the gallery at public events, conferences, and in the media
l Administration & Budget Management
1. Develop and manage exhibition and programming budgets
2. Oversee logistics including shipping, insurance, and condition reporting
3. Ensure compliance with gallery policies and operational best practices
Qualifications:
l Bachelor’s degree in Art History, Fine Arts, Curatorial Studies, or a related field (Master’s preferred)
l Minimum 8 years of experience in curatorial, exhibition planning, or arts management roles
l Strong knowledge of contemporary and/or historical art
l Deep interest in, or familiarity with, Liu Shiming’s work and 20th-century Chinese sculpture
l Excellent research, writing, and public speaking skills
l Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and work both independently and collaboratively
l Professional-level proficiency in English (written and spoken)
l Experience with project management, budgeting, and database tools
