Maintenance Carpenter

Primary Functions:
The Maintenance Carpenter will perform skilled and semi-skilled carpentry work as part of constructing, maintaining, repairing, or modifying buildings and facilities throughout the company’s campuses
Supervisory Responsibilities:

Duties/Responsibilities:
- Performs and completes a variety of carpentry tasks with quality workmanship to construct, maintain, repair, or modify buildings or facilities; tasks may include measuring and marking materials; repairing or installing walls, cabinets, sidings, doors, partitions, roofs, & floors.
- Reads blueprints, sketches, and schematics to determine the necessary materials, equipment, tools, and methods.
- Recommends additional departmental or contract staff when needed to complete projects and meet deadlines.
- Safely and efficiently operates a variety of power and hand tools to complete jobs accurately and to specifications; such tools may include ladders, hammers, saws, drills, planers
- Protects furnishings, equipment, and other property during carpentry repairs by properly covering or removing items.
- Restores worksites to original condition by removing debris, and equipment used during the project and returning property, furnishings and equipment to proper location.
- Develops and maintains records regarding time spent and materials used for specific jobs.
- Provides status reports including the status of work projects, materials used, and hours spent performing labor to supervisor or other appropriate project lead.
- Performs spot checks on equipment to ensure proper working condition; services tools and equipment as needed and returns damaged items for repair or replacement.
- Ensures compliance with federal regulations, policies, and laws regarding construction, repairs, and proper environmental protection, hazardous waste disposal, or use of chemical substances.
- Follows standard safety precautions; adheres to operator’s instructions when using power tools; wears recommended protective equipment such as goggles, hearing protectors, and/or work gloves.
- Performs moving and setting up of office furniture.
- Manages active key log for all employee’s including making new keys from blanks.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Thorough understanding of carpentry tools, techniques, and terminology.
- Good understanding of basic mathematics.
- Ability to understand and follow simple oral and written directions.
- Ability to work well with others.
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent and two years of carpentry experience; OR
- Completion of vocational or apprenticeship program in carpentry/building trades; OR
- Four years of experience in carpentry under the supervision of a skilled carpenter; OR
- A satisfactory combination of experience required.
- Healthcare experience preferred but not required
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods standing, bending, stooping, and reaching.
- Must have a full range of physical motion as required to properly operate manual and electric power tools.
- Must have balance necessary to traverse and work on scaffolding, ladders and roofs.
- Will work in a variety of environments and weather with exposure to dust, fumes, and chemicals in both indoor and outdoor environments.
- Must be able to regularly lift and carry 50 pounds and 100 pounds occasionally.
