POSITION SUMMARY:
This is a front line customer service position requiring enthusiasm, friendliness and a respectful and positive attitude!
The clerk engages with customers, vendors and co-workers; provides support for co-workers; is accountable for maintaining the core of the store by stocking items. Must have some evening and weekend availability.

GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Adhere to the co-op’s seven guiding principles and mission.
* Regular, reliable and consistent attendance.
* Cooperate and communicate with all co-op staff members.
* Stay informed by reading all internal communications.
* Know and follow all Co-op policies and procedures.
* Establish appropriate priorities, manage and use time well.
* Learn and adapt to new procedures and tasks.
* Handle job responsibilities in an accurate, thorough, professional and friendly
manner.
* Ability to multi-task and switch tasks mid-stream to help others.
* Help to train and support other staff members.
* Keeps regular cleaning schedule for all equipment and department.
* Cleans assigned area to maintain safe and sanitary conditions.
* Log and order all special orders properly and efficiently.
* Makes price changes in accordance with standard procedures to reflect cost of
goods and margin requirements.
* Consults with Grocery Manager on planning and execution of resetting of
sections to accommodate new products or to discontinue slower selling items.
* Contributes ideas for new products, techniques and systems to improve the
operations.
* Ensure rotation of product.
* Maintains perishable inventory for department operations.
* Maintains inventory of non-food supplies and packaging materials.
* Understands packaging, display and pricing margins.
* Makes displays attractively and neatly.
* Works with vendors to accurately receive product when necessary.
CUSTOMER SERVICE:
* Provides customers with a high level of efficient, responsive service.
* Suggests alternative products for those not available.
* Obtain customer contact information to follow-up any unresolved questions.
* Waits on customers at the counter and takes orders.
* Ability to project a friendly personality and work as a positive team member.
* Outstanding customer service skills and an interest in serving the public.
STOCKING:
* Stock and maintain the shelves in your sub-departments.
* Proper rotation to ensure quality and freshness.
* Monitor pricing while stocking to catch any discrepancies.
* Counting the load when breaking it down.
* Report all shortages or miss-picks to the Receiver or the Department Manager.
* Daily blocking of your department after loads are processed.
* Blocking of the entire store on evenings that you close.
* Work back stock thoroughly on non-load days.
ORDERING:
* Meet order deadlines.
* Familiarity with other sub departments within the grocery department in the
event you need to cover a day off or vacation in that department.
* Proper ordering to ensure a nearly 100% in stock availability, while maintaining
back stock.
* Knowledge of Co-op inventory controls.
SAFETY:
* Proper equipment use of knives, bailers, compactors, other.
* Sweep and mop any debris or spills to prevent unnecessary slips and falls.
* Proper ergonomics while lifting and bending to reduce strains and sprains.
* Report any safety issues to management or safety committee member is required.
SANITATION:
* Clean shelves, coolers and department as regularly scheduled.
* Keep coolers and freezers neat and orderly.
* Monitor temperatures daily to ensure products stay in the safety zone.
Requirements
ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
While performing the duties of this job, the associate is required to be able to stand,
walk, stoop, kneel, crouch and manipulate (lift, carry, move) light to medium weights of
10-60 pounds. Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand, and finger dexterity,
including ability to grasp and visual acuity to operate equipment. The associate
frequently is required to sit, reach with hands and arms, talk and hear.
Regularity and consistency of attendance is essential to ensure high quality service and
ultimately a productive department and company.
