ELEMENTARY SCHOOL LUNCH AIDE (Part-Time)
Little Water Prep, a growing K-5 public charter school in Poughkeepsie, New York, invites passionate and revolutionary educators to apply to the position of part time Lunch Aide, Little Water Prep is founded on the belief that like water, all our scholars are essential and capable of taking on whatever shape and can excel academically when in environments that are challenging, affirming, and loving. We project to serve over 300 students in the Poughkeepsie City School District over the next year. We are looking for reliable and efficient lunch aides to assist in the preparation of meals for our students.
JOB SUMMARY
The School Lunch Aide is responsible for assisting with the timely preparation and serving of meals, maintaining cleanliness and food safety guidelines in the kitchen and cafeteria, and ensuring a positive dining experience for students and staff. The aide will also support food safety procedures, food and beverage date rotation and assist with supervision of students during meal times.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the receiving of food from our food service provider ensuring appropriate storage and temperature control.
- Snack delivery to classrooms at appropriate predetermined times.
- Assist in the set up of: the kitchen and lunch room, the drink and utensil station, ensuring the hot box and steam table are turned on at appropriate times.
- Ensuring all lunch service preparation is done in a timely manner in accordance with the school's daily schedule.
- Assist in the preparation and serving of meals according to established menus and portion sizes.
- Ensure that food items are properly stored, sealed, labeled, and rotated to maintain freshness and quality.
- Communicate any supply needs to Operations staff.
- Monitor food temperatures during storage, preparation, and serving to ensure compliance with food safety regulations.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization in the lunch room, including wiping down tables, sweeping floors, and sanitizing food service equipment.
- Assist students with meal selections and provide friendly and courteous service during meal times, encouraging students to make healthy food choices and promote positive eating habits.
- Supervise students in the cafeteria, ensuring orderly behavior and adherence to school rules and procedures.
- Assist with cleanup and dishwashing duties after meal times. Ensure all refrigerators and all equipment is wiped down with no food items left sitting out.
- Report any concerns or issues related to food quality, safety, or student behavior to Operations staff.
- Assisting with trash changing and removal.
- Working with volunteers during lunch service.
Key Qualifications and Competencies
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous experience working in a food service and/or school cafeteria setting.
- Knowledge of food safety and sanitation principles.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team, helping out wherever needed.
- Ability to communicate effectively with students, staff, and supervisors.
- Ability to take initiative and operate independently in a clean and organized manner.
- Strong interpersonal skills and a positive attitude toward working with children.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 25 pounds.
- Willingness to undergo a background check and comply with school district policies and regulations.
- Occasional special events occurring outside of regular working hours.
Compensation and Benefits
Part-Time Lunch Aides work four hours a day between 10am and 2pm and receive a weekly pay of $16.75 - $18.00 per hour and are expected to work a minimum of 20 hours per week, 4-hour shifts.
