Assistant Teacher

Little Tigers Childcare is looking for a caring, dependable, and energetic Assistant Teacher to join our team! The Assistant Teacher works alongside Lead Teachers to provide a safe, nurturing, and engaging environment for children. This position helps with daily classroom activities, routines, supervision, and care while supporting children’s social, emotional, and developmental needs.

This position will also serve as a classroom float, providing support in different classrooms throughout the day based on staffing and classroom needs. The Assistant Teacher may work with a variety of age groups, from infants through school-age children, and should be comfortable adapting to different classroom environments, routines, and teaching teams. Flexibility and a willingness to jump in wherever help is needed are important parts of this role.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Lead Teacher with daily classroom activities, routines, and learning experiences.
• Provide attentive supervision and ensure the safety and well-being of all children.
• Help create a positive, welcoming classroom environment where children feel safe, supported, and encouraged.
• Support children with age-appropriate social-emotional skills, communication, problem-solving, and independence.
• Assist with meals, snacks, diapering, toileting, handwashing, dressing, and other daily care routines as appropriate for the age group.
• Help plan, prepare, and clean up classroom activities and learning materials.
• Participate in activities that support early literacy, math, science, creativity, motor skills, and social development.
• Encourage positive behavior and help children learn appropriate ways to express their feelings and interact with others.
• Follow individual care plans, classroom routines, and guidance provided by the Lead Teacher and administration.
• Communicate appropriately and professionally with children, families, coworkers, and administration.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and inviting classroom.
• Complete required documentation, including attendance, daily notes, activities, and other classroom records.
• Follow Wisconsin DCF childcare licensing regulations, Little Tigers policies, and health and safety procedures.
• Work cooperatively with the Lead Teacher and other staff members to maintain appropriate staff-to-child ratios and provide quality care.
• Attend staff meetings, training, and professional development as required.
• Perform other duties related to the care and supervision of children as assigned.

Qualifications & Experience

• Previous experience working with children is preferred but not required.
• A genuine interest in working with infants, toddlers, preschoolers, and/or school-age children.
• Dependable, patient, positive, and able to work well with a team.
• Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with children, families, and coworkers.
• Ability to follow directions, classroom routines, and childcare policies.
• Comfortable assisting with daily childcare tasks such as diapering, toileting, meals, cleaning, and helping children with personal needs.
• Must meet all applicable Wisconsin DCF background check requirements as well the willingness to complete required childcare trainings.
• Ability to lift, carry, sit on the floor, bend, kneel, and otherwise actively participate in the daily care and supervision of young children.
• Must be 17 years old.
• High School diploma or equivalent is required.
• CPR/First Aid certification is preferred or must be obtained within the required timeframe.

Pay: From $14.00 per hour
