What are the responsibilities and job description for the MED TECH - ANY SHIFT - PER DIEM position at Little Sisters of the Poor?
JOB OBJECTIVES:
Prepares, administers and records select oral, nasal, transdermal, rectal, inhalant, topical and ophthalmic schedule medications to Residents under the supervision and direction of a licensed nurse. May also function as a nursing assistant. These services are consistent with the Home's standards and philosophy and are in compliance with all regulations, codes, policies and procedures that govern the facility.
JOB STANDARDS:
1. Has High School Education or Equivalent.
2. Has successfully completed an approved Medication Assistant Training Program and is certified by the State of RI for medication administration.
3. Has received instruction on medication actions, medication effects on body systems and side effects, especially in relation to geriatric Residents.
4. Has successfully completed course work to measure and record blood pressure and radial pulse.
5. Understands and effectively carries out verbal and/or written instructions in English.
6. Has the ability to administer and document medications to elderly, confused and emotionally upset Residents in a safe and mature manner.
7. Has the ability to document medication administration legibly and accurately.
8. Possess the ability to perform the *essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodations.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
- 1. Administer scheduled medications prescribed for routine administration according to medication administration policies and procedures. Administers select PRN medications only after the nurse has made an assessment and authorized the administration.
- 2. Communicate with the unit nurse: at beginning and end of tour of duty. Recognize and report to unit nurse changes in Resident status immediately.
3. Take and record blood pressure and pulse as indicated in conjunction with prescribed medications. Report any changes to unit nurse from prior readings.
4. Follow directions given by unit nurse and communicate effectively with Residents/staff.
5. Participate in in-service educational programs to increase knowledge and skills. Attend mandatory in-services provided for employees.
- 6. Work effectively and cooperatively as a team member with the Nursing Department and all disciplines.
7. Meet the attendance standards as established and provides proper notification for absence.
8. Observe dress and conduct codes including wearing of identification badge.
- 9. Follow established infection/exposure control procedures, hazardous waste policies and procedures.
10. Adhere to the Nursing Assistant job description when not administering medications.
11. Strive for optimal use of supplies, materials; keeping in mind cost and budget limitations.
12. Maintain confidentiality of all Resident, departmental and organizational information.
13. Meet attendance standards as established and provide proper notice of absence.
