Veterinary Technician I

Little Silver Animal Hospital is seeking compassionate, dependable individuals to join our team as Veterinary Technician I team members.

We are a busy, collaborative 9-doctor practice that has served the pets and families of Monmouth County and surrounding areas for more than 35 years. Our team is committed to providing exceptional patient care while maintaining a supportive environment while fostering a supportive environment.

This is an entry-level veterinary technician position designed for individuals who are beginning their careers in veterinary medicine. Previous veterinary hospital experience is helpful but not required. We provide hands-on training for motivated applicants who demonstrate reliability, compassion, attention to detail, and a strong willingness to learn.

What You’ll Do

Veterinary Technician I team members begin by learning the essential skills needed to provide safe, compassionate, and efficient patient care.

Initial responsibilities may include:

  • Safely restraining and handling dogs, cats, and other patients
  • Assisting veterinarians and experienced technicians during examinations and treatments
  • Preparing examination rooms and treatment areas
  • Walking, feeding, cleaning, and monitoring hospitalized or day-stay patients
  • Maintaining patient comfort and cleanliness
  • Cleaning and disinfecting treatment areas.
  • Restocking medical supplies and maintaining organized, clean, workspaces
  • Preparing laboratory samples and supplies under supervision
  • Assisting with patient transportation throughout the hospital
  • Entering information into patient medical records
  • Communicating patient and client needs or concerns to veterinarians and experienced technicians
  • Supporting team members to maintain an efficient hospital workflow

As training progresses and competency is demonstrated, additional responsibilities may include:

  • Collecting blood and laboratory samples
  • Performing in-house diagnostic testing
  • Administering medications and treatments as directed
  • Assisting with radiographs
  • Preparing patients and equipment for procedures
  • Supporting dental, surgical, and hospitalized-patient care
  • Assisting with client education and discharge instructions

Team members advance based on demonstrated skills, reliability, patient safety, and their ability to perform responsibilities independently.

Preferred but not required:

  • Previous experience in a veterinary hospital, kennel, animal shelter, grooming facility, boarding facility, or other animal-care environment
  • Coursework or enrollment in an animal science, veterinary assistant, or veterinary technician program
  • Experience handling dogs and cats
  • Customer service experiencePrevious veterinary medical skills are not required. Applicants who are already independently proficient in venipuncture, radiology, anesthesia monitoring, and advanced patient care may be better suited for our experienced Veterinary Technician opening.

Schedule Requirements

  • Availability for evening shifts
  • Availability for Saturdays
  • Dependable and consistent attendance
  • Flexibility to assist during busy hospital hours

Compensation

Based on relevant animal-care experience, demonstrated skills, and availability.

This is an entry-level training position. Employees may become eligible for advancement and increased compensation as they demonstrate competency in additional veterinary technician skills.
