JOB GOAL

The ELD teacher plays a crucial role in supporting English Language Development by providing targeted instruction to students identified as English Learners. This includes assisting students who are currently performing below grade level in core content areas. Additionally, the ELD teacher collaborates with classroom educators to offer instructional strategies and expertise, fostering an inclusive and effective learning environment.

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Nine and one-half (9.50) – Month Contract Position, (195 days), plus Benefit Package NOTE:  Precise placement within the salary range will be determined based upon education and experience. This position is reviewed annually and is contingent upon continued funding FLSA:EXEMPT

 

 

 TEACHER SALARY SCHEDULE

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Valid Arkansas teaching certificate in Elementary Education. 
  2. Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree.
  3. ESL endorsement and additional work with SIOP I and SIOP II training is desired.
  4. Minimum of three years of recent classroom experience at the elementary or intermediate level, with preference for those who have worked with English language learners.

  5. Bilingual preferred—proficient in spoken English and Spanish, or willing to acquire Spanish language skills.

  6. Required expertise and experience in literacy and second language acquisition.

  7. Mastery of instructional techniques and strategies that enhance student achievement across all content areas.

  8. Strong knowledge of best ESL practices and effective integration within mainstream classrooms.

  9. Understanding of appropriate interventions for English language learners, as well as proficiency in the MTSS process and tiered support systems.

  10. Proven organizational skills that support efficient planning and execution.

  11. Expertise in technology, both for instructional applications and overall utilization.

  12. Excellent interpersonal skills to foster collaboration and engagement.

  13. Demonstrated proficiency in both oral and written communication.

  14. Strong work ethic and leadership abilities that drive success and innovation.

  15. Conviction that all children can and will learn in the Little Rock School District 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

The following statements of duties and responsibilities are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by individuals assigned to this position. These statements are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all duties and responsibilities required of all personnel within this position.

 

  1. Provide instruction and targeted interventions for elementary students identified as English Learners or those performing below grade level in any content area.

  2. Collaborate with grade-level teachers to plan daily lessons, analyze student data, and implement effective interventions and modifications.

  3. Monitor student progress and report on their advancement in meeting language proficiency standards.

  4. Serve on the LPAC, contributing insights into student performance and progress to support informed decisions on placement and support for English Learners.

  5. Observe students in classrooms, as feasible, to assess skill transfer and language development success.

  6. Deliver small group instruction for students receiving ELD services in this format.

  7. Communicate students' progress to parents, teachers, and the school's instructional support team.

  8. Help foster an environment conducive to learning and growth for all students.

  9. Enter curricular progression data online and prepare reports for school and district review.

  10. Engage in professional development opportunities identified to strengthen the ELD Program.

  11. Administer a variety of assessments, including the ELPA 21 Screener and additional diagnostic evaluations for students.

  12. Collaborate to provide professional development for classroom teachers on effective instructional strategies for working with English Learners.

  13. Performs other duties as assigned.

Mental Functions, Physical Requirements, and Working Conditions:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, go up and down stairs, operate foot and hand controls, use a telephone and write. Occasionally the employee must lift and/or move up to twenty (20) or more pounds. This position requires accurate perceiving of sound, near and far vision, depth perception, handling and working with educational materials and/or objects, and providing oral information. Must have the ability to work for the duration of the daily contracted time period, and to be physically present and at assigned work, with only infrequent unexcused absences, during the contract year. Additional technical skills, knowledge, and abilities may be recommended by immediate supervisor and approved by the Human Resources Director.
