Job Overview
The Plant Operator at Little River Materials is responsible for operating, monitoring, and maintaining the rock screening plant and associated heavy equipment to ensure safe, efficient, and consistent production. This role combines equipment operation with hands-on maintenance support and requires strong attention to detail, mechanical aptitude, and the ability to identify and resolve issues in a timely manner. The position may also be required to report to other company sites as needed to provide coverage and support operations.
Locations in Montgomery, Clanton, and surrounding areas.

Responsibilities
- Follow all company safety policies and procedures
- Operate and monitor the rock screening plant and heavy equipment
- Ensure plant is functioning properly and operating at desired production rates
- Ensure products meet Quality Control standards
- Monitor operating temperatures of drive mechanisms and components such as bearings, motors, gear boxes, and pumps
- Perform and document daily equipment inspections
- Monitor and maintain belt tension on V-belts and conveyor belts
- Monitor and adjust screen tension; replace screens as needed
- Assist with and perform repairs, including rubber skirting replacement
- Inspect and maintain pulleys, rollers, idlers, bearings, and shafts
- Perform routine maintenance including greasing and oil changes at scheduled intervals
- Assist with diagnosing and resolving mechanical and basic electrical issues
- Work with management to plan and schedule maintenance
- Follow proper startup and shutdown procedures for the plant
- Maintain clean and organized work areas, including removing contamination from inventory
- Use hand tools and equipment safely and effectively
- Support overall plant operations and assist team members as needed
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- 18 years of age or older
- Ability to operate heavy equipment
- Plant maintenance experience preferred
- Heavy equipment maintenance experience preferred
- Basic mechanical skills and ability to use hand tools
- Welding and fabrication experience preferred
- Basic electrical troubleshooting experience preferred
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities
- Strong work ethic and reliability
- Ability to work well independently and as part of a team
- Willingness to work flexible hours and conditions
- Reliable transportation
Physical Qualifications
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly and up to 100 pounds occasionally
- Frequent bending, squatting, kneeling, reaching, twisting, and climbing
- Good hand-eye coordination for operating equipment controls
- Good vision, including depth perception, to assess distances and hazards
- Ability to hear instructions and equipment operation sounds
