Lead Toddler Teacher

Essential Duties

Curriculum, Assessment, and Child Guidance

• Plan and implement daily activities and a posted weekly lesson plan aligned with the PA Early Learning Standards for Infants and Toddlers, including indoor/outdoor, small- and large-group, sensory, gross-motor, and language and literacy experiences.
• Adapt activities for the developmental range in the group, including children with IFSPs or IEPs, in coordination with the Director and Early Intervention providers.
• Complete required developmental screenings and assessments on the program calendar and maintain individual portfolios with dated work samples and anecdotal notes.
• Guide toddler behavior using developmentally appropriate, non-punitive strategies. Corporal punishment, harsh language, restraint, use of food as discipline, and withholding active play are prohibited.

Care Routines, Supervision, Health, and Safety

• Supervise children at all times, including during naptime, diapering, transitions, and outdoor play, per 55 Pa. Code § 3270.113; maintain required ratios and group sizes and notify the Director immediately if ratio cannot be held.
• Perform diapering, toileting, handwashing, sanitizing, and food-handling per posted procedure; support family-partnered toilet learning; implement responsive feeding, mealtime, and nap routines.
• Complete daily health checks, daily indoor/outdoor safety checks, attendance records, and per-child daily communication records; remove hazards and report maintenance needs immediately.
• Administer medication only as authorized, trained, and documented. Complete accident/incident reports same-day and notify the Director and family.
• Execute emergency, evacuation, and lockdown procedures and participate in required drills.
• Serve as a mandated reporter under the PA Child Protective Services Law and report suspected abuse or neglect directly to ChildLine as required by law.

Family Engagement

• Communicate with families daily at drop-off and pick-up; raise developmental concerns to the Director promptly and support referrals to Early Intervention or other resources.
• Complete at least two documented family conferences per year, plus additional conferences as needed, and participate in family events, new-family orientation, and classroom transition meetings.

Quality, Team, and Program Support

• Maintain classroom environment and practice consistent with STAR 4 standards and the program's CQI plan; participate in ITERS-3 assessment, preparation, and improvement planning.
• Maintain an active PA Professional Development Registry profile and an individual Professional Development Plan; complete a minimum of 24 clock hours of approved professional development annually.
• Coordinate and direct assistant group supervisors, aides, and volunteers in the classroom; model expected practice.
• Attend staff meetings, in-service days, and required trainings; maintain confidentiality of all child, family, and personnel information; assist the Director with designated activities and other duties as assigned.
