Position Overview
The Daycare / Learning Center Teacher is responsible for creating a safe, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate environment where children can grow cognitively, socially, emotionally, and physically. Teachers design engaging lessons, maintain classroom structure, and foster strong partnerships with families and staff.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Plan and implement interactive lessons (numbers, colors, shapes, literacy, music, storytelling, science, etc.).
- Support developmental milestones with individualized care and learning activities.
- Maintain safe, clean, and organized classrooms, meeting all health, hygiene, and safety standards.
- Supervise and engage children during daily routines (meals, rest, restroom, play).
- Observe, document, and communicate progress with parents and administrators.
- Collaborate with colleagues, participate in staff meetings, and attend required trainings.
Texas Minimum Standards & Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years old with a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Must pass fingerprint-based background check and submit notarized affidavit.
- Must provide proof of TB test if required by Texas health authorities.
- Complete 24 hours of pre-service training (8 before starting, remainder within 90 days).
- Complete 24 hours of annual training, including child development, maltreatment recognition, emergency preparedness, safety, and communicable disease control.
- For infant/toddler teachers: at least 1 hour of annual training on shaken baby syndrome, SIDS, and safe sleep practices.
Preferred Credentials
- CDA (Child Development Associate) or degree in Early Childhood Education / related field.
- CPR/First Aid certification.
