Title:Teacher Job Description

REPORTS TO: Director

PRIMARY FUNCTION: Developing engaging and age-appropriate curricula to foster children's growth and development, while working collaboratively with colleagues to achieve the best possible outcomes.

KEY ROLES (Essential Job Responsibilities): As a team player, you will work closely with an assistant teacher to address the needs of the children and the classroom as a whole

  • Ensure the emotional, social, physical, and cognitive needs of each child are met
  • Encourage assistants to contribute to curriculum planning, promoting a collaborative and supportive environment
  • Develop and implement weekly lesson plans in accordance with Early Learning and Developmental Standards
  • Organize and facilitate educational activities, including events and visits from guests and family members
  • Evaluate and assess the development of each child, documenting progress in individual portfolios
  • Communicate regularly with parents, including progress updates through parent-teacher conferences and daily postings on smartcare
  • Maintain accurate records of accidents, daily observations, and anecdotal notes
  • Ensure confidentiality and report any suspected abuse to the supervisor
  • Craft a classroom environment that aligns with the program's goals and philosophy
  • Maintain a safe and healthy environment for children, staff, and families
  • Perform routine inspections and replacement of damaged or lost materials
  • Participate in ongoing professional development, adhering to the program's plan and Employee and Policy handbooks
  • Supervise and mentor assistants, aides, and volunteers in the classroom
  • Manage attendance records and time sheets accurately
  • Comply with all relevant licensing regulations

Requirements

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:

  • Must meet State of CT requirements as childcare center worker
  • Must be CPR/First Aid Certified
  • Formal Education in Early Childhood Education Preferred
  • Ongoing professional development in the field of child development required
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Demonstrate organizational abilities
  • Ability to build rapport with families and community members
  • Must meet physical requirements of the job including the ability to lift up to 50 pounds
