Position Overview

The Daycare Cook/Float Staff member is responsible for preparing nutritious meals and snacks for children while maintaining a clean, safe, and compliant kitchen environment. When not performing kitchen duties, this role "floats" to support classroom teachers with supervision, activities, and daily routines. This dual‑role position requires flexibility, strong time‑management skills, and a genuine love for working with children.

Primary Responsibilities

• Prepare daily meals and snacks following the daycare's menu, dietary guidelines, and allergy restrictions.
• Maintain a clean, sanitized kitchen in accordance with state licensing and health department standards.
• Track food inventory, rotate stock, and communicate supply needs to management.
• Follow all food safety procedures including proper storage, labeling, and temperature control.
• Assist in classrooms as needed, supporting teachers with supervision, activities, and transitions.
• Engage positively with children, modeling appropriate behavior and encouraging participation.
• Support daily routines such as diapering, toileting, cleaning, and organizing materials.
• Communicate effectively with staff to ensure smooth coordination between kitchen and classroom needs.
• Follow all licensing regulations, center policies, and safety procedures.

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Food Handler's Permit (or ability to obtain upon hire)
• Ability to lift 30–40 lbs and stand for extended periods
• Experience working with children in a daycare or similar setting preferred
• Basic cooking and kitchen safety skills
• Strong communication and teamwork abilities
• Ability to pass background checks required by state licensing

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time

Pay: From $10.00 per hour

Expected hours: 30 – 40 per week
