Wire Manufacturing Technician

Position Summary

Little Falls Alloys (LFA) is seeking a dependable, mechanically inclined Wire Manufacturing Technician to join our production team.

This is a hands-on manufacturing position supporting multiple areas of our wire production operation, including round wire drawing, shaped and flat wire production, and electroplating. The ideal candidate is comfortable working around industrial machinery, has strong attention to detail, and is willing to learn multiple manufacturing processes.

This is not an assembly-line position. LFA manufactures highly specialized wire products to customer-specific dimensional, mechanical, and plating requirements. Employees in this role will be trained to operate production equipment, perform in-process measurements, maintain accurate production records, and ensure material meets required specifications throughout the manufacturing process.

Primary ResponsibilitiesWire Drawing & Manufacturing

• Set up, operate, and monitor wire drawing equipment used to reduce wire to specified diameters.
• Produce round wire to customer and internal dimensional requirements.
• Assist with the production of shaped, flat, square, and other specialty wire products.
• Thread and route wire through dies, capstans, guides, take-ups, and related equipment.
• Select and install appropriate dies and tooling based on production requirements.
• Monitor wire condition, surface finish, dimensional accuracy, and equipment performance throughout production.
• Perform routine dimensional inspections using micrometers and other precision measuring equipment.
• Identify production issues such as improper dimensions, surface defects, wire breaks, tooling wear, or equipment problems.
• Load and unload reels, spools, and production material safely.
• Complete required production travelers, inspection records, and material identification.

Electroplating

• Assist with and operate LFA's in-house electroplating processes, including gold, silver, nickel, tin, and copper plating.
• Set up and monitor continuous wire plating equipment.
• Follow established plating procedures and process parameters.
• Monitor line speed, electrical settings, solution conditions, and other process variables.
• Perform or assist with plating thickness measurements and other in-process quality checks.
• Maintain proper identification and traceability of plated material.
• Follow all required chemical handling, PPE, environmental, and safety procedures.

Quality & Process Control

• Read and follow work orders, production travelers, drawings, specifications, and written manufacturing instructions.
• Use micrometers, calipers, gauges, and other measuring equipment to verify product dimensions.
• Record production and inspection results accurately.
• Maintain material identification and lot traceability throughout the manufacturing process.
• Immediately report out-of-tolerance conditions, equipment problems, or quality concerns.
• Work closely with Production and Quality personnel to ensure products meet LFA and customer requirements.

Equipment & Workplace

• Perform routine cleaning and basic preventive maintenance of production machinery and work areas.
• Maintain tooling, dies, reels, and production equipment in good working condition.
• Keep assigned work areas clean, organized, and safe.
• Follow all LFA safety procedures and properly use required personal protective equipment.
• Assist other production departments as needed based on manufacturing schedules and customer requirements.

Qualifications

Required:

• Mechanical aptitude and willingness to work hands-on with industrial manufacturing equipment.
• Ability to use or learn precision measuring instruments such as micrometers and calipers.
• Ability to follow detailed written and verbal work instructions.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality work.
• Dependable attendance and ability to work scheduled hours and overtime when required.
• Ability to work independently after appropriate training while also functioning effectively as part of a production team.
• Willingness to be cross-trained and work in multiple manufacturing departments.

Preferred:

• Previous experience in wire drawing, wire manufacturing, metalworking, electroplating, machine operation, or another industrial manufacturing environment.
• Experience operating drawing machines, rolling mills, shaping equipment, continuous plating lines, or similar production machinery.
• Experience using precision measuring equipment.
• Familiarity with manufacturing drawings, tolerances, production travelers, or quality documentation.

Prior wire manufacturing experience is preferred but not required for the right mechanically inclined candidate who is willing to learn.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand and work around production equipment for extended periods.
• Ability to lift, move, and handle reels, tooling, and production materials within established safety limits.
• Ability to safely perform repetitive manufacturing tasks.
• Ability to work around machinery, lubricants, metals, plating chemicals, and other materials commonly found in an industrial manufacturing environment.
• Ability to wear required personal protective equipment.

Pay: $18.00 - $25.00 per hour
